Daisy Lowe has sold her Camden townhouse for £1.82million – after she was sued by a celebrity builder for not paying a £45,000 refurbishment bill.

The fashion model, 34, bought the three-storey period property for £1.55million in 2017 and set about updating it, with trendy decor and a new kitchen extension.

She sold it last year for £1.82million – £20,000 more than the asking price of £1.8million.

The model excitedly told followers on Instagram that she and her partner Jordan Saul are ready to take on a new renovation project together.

Posting images of her former pad in north London, the star said: ‘While Ivy is napping I am finally getting to sit down and start planning our new renovation.

Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group increases its stake in fast fashion firm Boohoo to 7.8%

Mike Ashley’s retail empire has once more increased its slice of Boohoo.

Frasers, the owner of Flannels and Sports Direct, boosted its stake in the fast fashion brand from 6.78 per cent to just over 7.8 per cent yesterday.

The group previously increased its holding in the online retailer, from 5 per cent to 6.78 per cent, last week.

Frasers, which is run by Ashley’s son-in-law Michael Murray, first snapped up a holding in Boohoo in mid June.

Boohoo was an appealing proposition owing to its ‘laser focus on young female consumers’, Frasers said at the time.

Ashley, Frasers’ founder and largest shareholder, has garnered a reputation for snapping up distressed High Street businesses.

And Murray last week said investments in other brands are ‘part of our DNA’.

Sam and Lara Worthington looked every inch the loved-up couple on Thursday as they attended at Paris Fashion Week

The fashionable duo put on a rare PDA and could barely keep their hands off each other as they posed up in their designer ensembles.

They couple attended the OTW By Vans Party at Point Alexandre III.

Lara (née Bingle) showed off her model figure in an oversized avant-garde suit jacket.

The oversized grey frock acted as a cosy mini dress, which flaunted the media personality’s slim pins.

She elevated the look with a pair of black stockings and black pumps which matched her designer clutch.

Flaunting her natural beauty, Lara, 36, opted for minimal makeup with just a lick of lipstick as she pulled her newly dyed dark bob back behind her ear.

Meanwhile, her husband, 46, looked cool in black Prada button up shirt worth an eye watering $2,250.

The Avatar star paired the expensive item with a simple pair of black slacks and sneakers before hiding his eyes behind incredibly dark shades.

Sam wrapped his arm protectively around his model wife as the happy couple leaned back against a wall.

At one point, the Hollywood star cracked a rare smile as Lara burst into laughter.

Lara and Sam share three sons – Rocket, seven, Racer, six, and River, two.

Gardening

Common or Garden

by Ken Thompson (Profile £14.99, 240pp)

How does your lawn grow? If it’s looking shaggy and full of dandelions, clover and buttercups, then give yourself a gold star.

Unkempt lawns dotted with weeds are now the height of fashion; in fact, a third of the main show gardens at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show incorporated weeds (now optimistically rebranded by the Royal Horticultural Society as ‘resilient plants’ or ‘hero plants’).

Ecologist Dr Ken Thompson doesn’t quite go that far, but points out that without weeds ‘most parts of the world not covered with Tarmac would consist largely of mud’.

How does your lawn grow? If it's looking shaggy and full of dandelions, clover and buttercups, then give yourself a gold star

How does your lawn grow? If it’s looking shaggy and full of dandelions, clover and buttercups, then give yourself a gold star

To spot Britain’s 50 most successful weeds, you won’t need to scour the countryside or hike up remote mountains.

Many of them can be ticked off your list in a morning, simply by visiting your local park, road verge or hedgerow. Why are these plants so ubiquitous, he asks, and what do they add to our landscape?

All of the plants in this book are natives, with the exception of the sycamore, introduced to Britain from Europe in the 16th century.

The sycamore may be a fairly run-of-the-mill tree, but one specimen can claim to be among the most photographed trees in Britain.

It’s the one that sits in a dramatic dip by Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland and had a starring role in Kevin Costner’s 1991 blockbuster Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (you can insert your own joke here about whether the tree was more wooden than the film’s leading man.)

Another unglamorous plant which Thompson enthuses over is ivy, because ‘few plants do more for wildlife than ivy’.

Its dense foliage provides shelter for insects, and in autumn it’s a much-needed source of nectar for bees. In winter, its berries provide food for blackbirds and thrushes.

What’s more, contrary to popular belief, ivy doesn’t damage trees, or the brickwork of your house. It is actually a good insulator, keeping buildings warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Samuel Pepys used to enjoy nettle porridge, and if you look online you'll see recipes for everything from nettle risotto to cupcakes with nettle frosting

Elder, often found growing on wasteland, has unpleasantly whiffy leaves, but is surprisingly versatile. If you’re into camping, its pithy shoots can be rubbed together to light a fire — and it can also be turned into a useful weapon.

Culpeper’s Complete Herbal, published in 1653, stated that ‘every boy that plays with a popgun will not mistake another tree instead of elder’. The flowers make lovely cordial, and the berries can be made into wine or into a jelly.

Not surprisingly, some of the most common weeds are types of grasses. Lawns, Thompson writes, are pretty much uncontrollable, however hard you try to impose your will on them.

Most of them start off with only one species of grass, but soon all sorts of other grassy invaders will move in, including crested dog’s tail, creeping bent, and the amusingly named Yorkshire fog, which comes out top as the most omnipresent weed in Britain.

If you’ve ever been stung by a nettle, you’ll probably think this is one weed we can do without, although be grateful that we don’t have the New Zealand nettle, which is so ferocious it can actually kill both humans and livestock. Yet our native nettle is probably the most useful of wild plants.

Samuel Pepys used to enjoy nettle porridge, and if you look online you’ll see recipes for everything from nettle risotto to cupcakes with nettle frosting.

French soldiers are said to have worn uniforms made out of nettle fabric during the Napoleonic Wars, and today companies are experimenting with nettles as an alternative to cotton and synthetic fibres.

This charming books zips along at a breakneck pace, much enhanced by Sarah Abbott’s jaunty illustrations.

We should value these familiar plants, Thompson writes, because they are the ones we have learnt to use as medicines, in cookery and incorporate into folklore.

Being common is actually ‘a rare and rather exceptional quality’.

Perhaps weeds really are hero plants after all.

Next to put fashion brand Reiss up for auction in move that could value it at more than £500m

Next is in discussions about selling fashion brand Reiss.

Lord Wolfson’s High Street clothing firm is working with private equity firm Warburg Pincus, which also owns a stake in Reiss, to auction the business – in a deal that could value it at more than £500m, according to Sky News.

They have hired bankers at Raymond James to oversee the sale, with a second round of bids from several suitors now under way.

Reiss was founded in 1971 by David Reiss and now has more than 60 shops in the UK.

Next s working with private equity firm Warburg Pincus, which also owns a stake in Reiss, to auction the business – in a deal that could value it at more than £500m

It was dubbed ‘an outstanding brand with enormous potential’ by Next boss Wolfson when he first snapped up a 25 per cent stake in the company in 2021.

Next now owns 51 per cent of the retailer, after increasing its stake last summer. It was suggested that Next may be using the auction to figure out a market price in order to then purchase Warburg Pincus’s stake.

Next has bolstered its High Street and internet presence by acquiring other retailers teetering on the edge of collapse, such as fashion brand Joules and online sofa seller Made.com.

Next – whose shares edged up 0.2 per cent yesterday – has also signed joint ventures with brands including Victoria’s Secret and GAP UK.

Summer means casting heavy winter coats and jumpers aside in favour of a light and breezy wardrobe.

But what does the optimum summer wardrobe look like? British fashion designer Jeremy Hackett, who co-founded the menswear label Hackett, has the answer.

Speaking to MailOnline Travel, the sartorial tastemaker, 70, reveals his ultimate do’s and don’ts for summertime dressing, lifting the lid on the garments that are a waste of money – and the ones that are a worthwhile investment.

FABRICS

Choosing the right fabrics is important when it comes to beating the heat. Hackett, who opened his first shop on London’s New King’s Road in 1983, says: ‘Anything in linen is perfect and, although it creases, [this] adds to its charm and gives off a casual understated air.’

He continues: ‘Seersucker is wonderful to wear and is usually made in stripes. A pair of blue and white striped seersucker trousers worn with a navy polo is a classic summer look. There has been a revival in towelling shirts and even relaxed towelling jackets that have a 1950s vibe.’

Though it might surprise some, wool is another material that Hackett recommends wearing. He says: ‘There is a misconception that wool is too hot for summer but there are incredibly fine lightweight woollen fabrics that are not only breathable but crease resistant.’

Hackett says that he's not a fan of dark brown clothing in the summer months, though admits that 'it¿s odds on that it will be the next big fashion statement'

Hackett, who landed his first gig working in a clothes shop at 17, says the worst kind of material you can wear in the hotter months is ‘anything synthetic’.

There’s one look in particular that he deems a fashion mistake. He says: ‘I abhor the synthetic football shirt with synthetic shorts or vests I see so often worn at airports when I am travelling.’

WHAT’S A WASTE OF MONEY

What’s the biggest waste of money when it comes to shopping for summer clothes? He says: ‘It is often items that you packed but never wore and remained in your suitcase for the whole of your holiday but seemed like a good idea at the time… perhaps the oversized snazzy but gaudy Hawaiian shirt that you bought online because it was on sale.’

WHAT’S WORTH INVESTING IN

If you have cash to spare, there are a few items that Hackett recommends you invest in for your capsule summer wardrobe.

The first, he reveals, is ‘an unstructured navy blazer that can be thrown over shorts to take you elegantly from the beach to the restaurant’.

Secondly, he recommends putting your money into a linen safari shirt or jacket in khaki or navy.

White cotton trousers are another worthwhile purchase, he reveals, as is a ‘simple cotton sweater for chilly evenings on board your yacht in the South of France or even Southend’.

COLOURS

When it comes to colour palette, Hackett says that ‘the pairing of navy and white can’t be beaten’.

Hackett reveals that stripes are his number one print for summertime, as they¿re evocative of the style of Hollywood star Cary Grant

‘A bandana is a retro addition and can always be used to mop your brow when sitting in the midday sun,’ says the designer

JEREMY HACKETT’S SUMMER WARDROBE DO’S AND DON’TS

DO

Wear socks and sandals

Buy an unstructured navy blazer

Put your money into a linen safari shirt or jacket in khaki or navy

Buy white cotton trousers

Buy lightweight woollen fabrics

Pair navy and white

Buy striped clothing – anything from polos to pullovers to trousers

Wear a bandana, Panama hat, a straw hat or a baseball cap

Buy Margaret Howell womenswear

Buy Hackett

DON’T

Wear dark brown

Wear anything synthetic

Wear synthetic football shirts, shorts or vests

Wear gaudy Hawaiian shirts

Wear too many striped items together

And patterns? Hackett reveals that stripes are his number one print for summertime, as they’re evocative of the style of Hollywood star Cary Grant.

He recommends wearing everything from striped polos and striped pullovers to striped trousers and striped swimming shorts, though he adds: ‘I would avoid wearing them all together and keep away from striped deckchairs.’

Certain looks that were once considered sartorial blunders have come back into style, Hackett reveals. He says: ‘Socks and sandals have long been a fashion faux pas but having said that, only the other day fashion editors were declaring that the socks and sandals were now incredibly chic.’

The same goes for wearing shades of brown in the summertime, he reveals, noting: ‘I am not fond of dark brown in the summer but now that I have said that it’s odds on that it will be the next big fashion statement.’

ACCESSORIES

Meanwhile, accessories have a big part to play in nailing a successful summer look.

Hackett reveals: ‘With the sun beating down a hat is essential be it a Panama hat, a straw hat or a baseball cap and if you really wish to look like an Englishman abroad a knotted handkerchief will do the trick.’

He continues: ‘A bandana is a retro addition and can always be used to mop your brow when sitting in the midday sun.’

If you need inspiration for the brands to look out for, Hackett recommends Margaret Howell for ‘classical but not old fashioned’ womenswear. Naturally, he suggests that men head to Hackett for their new summer looks.

Hackett’s brand recently partnered with Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, to create staff uniforms for a series of ‘Summer Sessions’ outdoor events the central London hotel is holding on its grounds.

Upcoming events include a wine-themed afternoon spent celebrating English Wine Week and a ‘lobster and chips feast’.

High street fashion brand reveals major update after going into administration and shutting 170 shops

  • M&Co is set to reinvent itself as an online retailer after collapsing last year
  • The 189-year-old clothes seller is set to launch a website next month

A mainstay high street fashion brand is set to reinvent itself as an online retailer after closing all 170 of its shops and collapsing into administration in December last year.

Scottish clothes seller M&Co, formerly known as Mackays, is set to launch a new website this June after shuttering the last of its high street stores in April.

The 189-year-old business, that was first started as a pawnbrokers in Paisley, filed for bankruptcy due to rising prices and falling demand for its clothes.

Now, the retailer is planning to pivot to the web, after being pulled out of administration by its new owner, AK Retail Holdings, which bought the brand in February.

The clothes seller’s digital reinvention will see it begin selling a range of womenswear collections and create its own app, following the launch of its website next month.

The plans come after M&Co, which has its head office in the small village of Inchinnan, Renfrewshire, was saved after being bought by Peterborough firm AK Retail Holdings for an undisclosed sum in February.

Under the terms of the deal, AK Retail bought the M&Co brand, but not the firm’s network of 170 high street shops, meaning the stores were forced to close.

Aside from M&Co, AK Retail Holdings also owns an array of online clothes shops including large men’s brand BadRhino and petite womenswear outlet PixieGirl.

The holdings company also owns Long Tall Sally, which sells clothes to women who are 5’8″ or taller, and Yours Clothing which is aimed at plus sized women.

AK Retail’s CEO Andrew Killingsworth, said the firm has ‘big plans’ for M&Co, while also remaining committed to ‘maintaining’ the company’s ‘values’ and ‘legacy’.

‘M&Co has long held a strong reputation as a local family brand that customers trust to find high quality clothing at an affordable price,’ Mr Killingsworth told Drapers

‘We have big plans for the brand, with an immediate focus on M&Co’s digital presence, with our brand-new site set to launch at the end of June 2023, and an app coming soon.’

‘M&Co has enormous potential, and we are excited to bring our expertise and experience to the table,’ the CEO continued.

‘We want to ensure that M&Co continues to be a beloved and trusted brand for generations to come.’

Prior to its bankruptcy, M&Co employed more than 1,900 staff in its 170 high street shops across the UK.

The business previously collapsed in 2020, leading to the loss of 380 jobs and the shuttering of 47 of its stores.

Its collapse followed the closure of major high street retailers including Joules, Topshop, and Debenhams in recent years.

M&Co’s administrators were contacted for comment.
