He’s on the edge! Moment a fight breaks out at Brazil’s famous ‘cliff-hanging’ selfie spot after one man’s photo gets spoiled

  • One man pushed the other after he accidentally got in the way of his photoshoot

Two men risked life and limb and got into a fight over a photo at one of the world’s most famous selfie spots.

The two unnamed men got into a scrap at the famous cliff-hanging illusion spot at the top of Pedra do Telegrafo, in the western part of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after one man got in the way of another’s photoshoot on Sunday.

The site is famous for its Instagram-worthy images, featuring a giant boulder where people can pose for a picture that from certain angles gives the impression that the person is on the edge of an abyss.

In reality, the rock is just a few inches off the ground.

The furious poser got up from his hanging position and pushed the other man after he seemingly got in the way of the photoshoot, before he was kicked and put into a headlock position.

The man who seemingly started the fight was quickly put into a headlock

The pair quickly tumbled a short distance down the hill as the man who appeared to have started the fight was thrown to the floor.

He can then be spotted putting his hand out and asking the other man to stop, as other tourists come over to break the fight up.

Both men then got up and returned to safety while continuing to bicker as the footage cuts.

The Pedra do Telegrafo, located at the summit of Morro de Guaratiba, is situated in the Pedra Branca State Park, within the sector of wild beaches in Barra de Guaratiba.

Its name originates from the time of World War II when the area served as a military station.

The 2.2-mile hike up to the summit takes visitors to an altitude of about 1160 ft above sea level.

It is one of the most popular photoshoot destinations in the world.

At time of publication, #pedradotelegrafo has been included in over 165,000 posts on Instagram.

Country singer Zach Bryan is seen in new bodycam footage telling cops he’s a ‘famous musician’ after being stopped for speeding

  • Zach Bryan, 27, had been pulled over for speeding in Verdigris, Oklahoma on Sept. 4,  three days before his Sept. 7 run-in with cops in Vinita, Oklahoma
  • Bryan did not want to disclose his address and later revealed to the officer that he was a ‘famous musician’

Country singer Zach Bryan is seen in new bodycam footage telling police officers that he’s a ‘famous musician’ during his arrest earlier this month.

Bryan, 27, had been pulled over for speeding in Verdigris, Oklahoma on September 4, three days before his September 7 run-in with cops in Vinita, Oklahoma.

During the September 4 incident, Bryan was pulled over for going 68mph in a 50mph zone and handcuffed. Bodycam footage shows the officer asking Bryan where he currently lives and the singer responding that he ‘doesn’t really feel comfortable sharing his address.’

On the video, he reiterates that he ‘doesn’t feel comfortable’ sharing where he lives. The officer urges him to provide the information he needs for the ticket, or informs him that he will go to jail. Then asked again, ‘are you going to give me the information I need?’

Bryan snapped, ‘I don’t know the address, sir,’ before the officer responded, ‘Why didn’t you just say that, but the singer quipped,  ‘because I don’t think it’s any of your business where I live. I’m a famous musician, and I don’t want people knowing where I live.’

The country crooner apologized to the officer and was let go with a warning.

On September 7,  Bryan had his second run-in with the law after he was charged with obstruction of an investigation on September 7 after he was taken into custody in Vinita, Oklahoma.

He called himself a ‘dumbass’ who ‘acted like an idiot’ after he was taken into custody on September 7 after a clash with highway cops in Vinta, Oklahoma

In a video he posted, he said that an officer came up to his window and asked for his driver’s license, registration and home address. He said he refused to give out his address because he is a recognized musician.

However, the officer then threatened to arrest Bryan – but he wouldn’t budge. He was held in custody in the Craig County Jail in connection with the obstruction of an investigation. He bonded out nearly and hour and a half after being booked.

He tweeted an apology on his social media on Thursday and spoke of the ordeal.

‘Today I had an incident with Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Emotions got the best of me and I was out of line with the things I said. I support law enforcement as much as anyone can, I was just frustrated in the moment, it was unlike me and I apologize,’ the singer said.

There is only one Michael Jordan, NBA fans might say – but they would be wrong.

As anyone monitoring the Green Bay Packers‘ daily transactions now knows, there is another Michael Jordan, who joined the team’s practice squad this week.

Like the 60-year-old NBA legend, the 25-year-old Jordan is also listed as a 6-foot-6 guard, but that is where the similarities end. At 315 pounds, the former Ohio State lineman weighs about 50 percent more than the elder Jordan did at his age.

Of course, the name is hardly rare. ‘Jordan’ is the 116th most popular surname in the United States, according to NameCensus.com, which ranks ‘Michael’ fourth among for males. Unsurprisingly, A LexisNexis search of the name ‘Michael Jordan’ yielded more than 3,000 results in the US alone.

There are other famous Michael Jordans, too, including actor Michael B. Jordan. And in the early 2000s, ESPN ran a popular advertisement centered on a fictional middle-aged man with the name and the daily struggles he faced.

‘Are you kidding?’ a disappointed limousine driver holding a ‘Michael Jordan’ sign tells the man in the popular ad.

Thanks to his name, the NFL’s Jordan managed to finagle free pizza from Papa John’s during his college days at Ohio State.

‘I placed it online in the name of ”Michael Jordan,”’ the former Buckeye told ESPN in 2021.

‘All of a sudden, it says it will be here in 20 minutes,’ he continued. ‘So I called the place and said I placed an order for Michael Jordan. He started cussing me out. He said, ”It’s Super Bowl Sunday. You can’t be playing around with fake names like that.”

‘Then I went in and showed him my ID, and I got free pizza for a week.’

The younger Michael Jordan arrived on the periphery of the Packers this week and could find his way onto the 53-man roster if Green Bay continues to suffer injuries along its offensive line. Long-time Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari has been battling knee issues since 2018 and missed the team’s Week 1 win over the rival Chicago Bears.

Ultimately he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

In 2021, he was waived and then later claimed by the Carolina Panthers, giving the city of Charlotte two Michael Jordans as the Basketball Hall of Famer owned the NBA’s Hornets at the time.

The NFL’s Jordan was cut by the Panthers in August and has since been looking for work.

As for the origin of his famous moniker, the Michigan native told ESPN he was actually named after his father, which is for the best, considering he’s awful at hoops.

‘I’m actually pretty terrible at basketball,’ he said in 2021. ‘You can ask the guys in the locker room. They already know that. I’ve been terrible since I’ve been a kid. I’ve got to look at the ball when I dribble.’

‘Nepo baby’ Christian Wilkins enjoys a holiday in Greece with his famous father Richard as his Hollywood career comes to a standstill amid SAG strike

Richard Wilkins‘ son Christian is reconnecting with his roots in Greece

The aspiring Hollywood star, 28, took to Instagram on Saturday to post a photo of himself in front of the Acropolis in Athens.

The picture showed the Australian socialite jumping in the air with a smile on his face in front of other tourists admiring the ancient structure.

In the caption, the Dancing with the Stars alum wrote ‘I LOVE GREECE’ and proceeded to list the reasons why.

‘As a little Greek boy (mom’s side) I was always obsessed with ancient Greece, collecting images and information on the Gods and ruins, creating my own books and images – so to be in the motherland for the first time is extremely overwhelming and surreal.’

Christian went to write how grateful he was and paid tribute to his grandmother: ‘Here’s to you Yiayia.’

Not to be outdone, Christian’s dad Richard Wilkins, 69, shared his own Mediterranean memento on Instagram, posting a sweet father and son photo.

Posed with his arm around his father, who was smiling brightly, they were a picture of familial bliss.

‘Amazing to be in Greece for the first time with my son, seeing the incredible Acropolis in real life… shame I’m blocking it with my head,’ the elder Wilkins commented in a caption.

Soaking up the sun by the Aegean Sea is likely a welcome distraction from the hurdles facing Christian with respect to his Hollywood career.

Christian moved to Tinseltown in April to pursue acting, but has been struggling to find work because the SAG strike has brought Hollywood to a standstill.

It is likely a huge disappointment for Christian, whose connection to his father previously helped him pave a modelling and reality TV career back home.

Christian has been getting involved in the strike action, having recently attended a protest with Australian actor Luke Cook outside Netflix headquarters.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph during the demonstration, Christian said: ‘It definitely wouldn’t have been my choice example of a time to move here but it is also kind of amazing to be here and see how the community has banded together.’

The SAG-AFTRA strike is likely a huge disappointment for Christian, whose connection to his father previously helped him pave a modelling and reality TV career back home

The wife of the CEO of OceanGate, who was piloting the missing Titanic tourist submersible, is descended from a wealthy New York couple who drowned on the Titanic when the famed ship hit an iceberg in 1912.

Wendy Rush is the wife of Stockton Rush, one of the five people trapped in a Titan sub that went missing Sunday after a trip to visit the Titanic wreckage.

Crews are now racing to try and find the missing sub in a massive international rescue effort.

Wendy’s great-great-grandparents, Isidor and Ida Straus, died in the 1912 disaster.

Isidor is a co-founder of Macy’s department store. He and his wife were featured in James Cameron’s 1997 film about the disaster as the two fictionalized versions were shown embraced on a better as water rushed into the ship and around them.

The pair had in real life been offered seats on a lifeboat – her as a woman, and him as a well-known former congressman and co-owner of Macy’s department store. But Isidor refused, saying he would not go until all the women and children had gone, and Ida then refused to go without her husband of 40 years.

She gave her mink coat to her maid, Ellen Bird, to keep her warm as she sailed away on the lifeboat.

Wendy Rush, born Wendy Hollings Weil, married engineer and entrepreneur Stockton Rush in 1986.

She is descended from Isidor and Ida Straus’s daughter Minnie, who married Dr. Richard Weil in 1905.

Their son, Richard Weil Jr., later served as president of Macy’s New York, and his son, Dr. Richard Weil III, is Wendy Rush’s father, The New York Times reported.

Wendy Rush has visited the Titanic wreckage three times with her husband’s company in the last two years, and works as OceanGate’s communications director.

Stockton Rush, 61, founded OceanGate in 2009.

The Seattle-born, Princeton-educated aeronautical engineer worked on fighter jets and initially hoped to go to Mars before switching his attention to the sea.

He tried to buy explorer Steve Fossett’s submersible after his death in 2007, but was unable to do so and began creating his own.

Rush admitted that parts of his sub were improvised – it is controlled by a video game controller, and the light inside was bought from an online camping website – but said it had been built with help from Boeing, NASA and the University of Washington.

Who is Stockton Rush?

Seattle-born Rush, 61, founded OceanGate Expeditions in 2009 – after trying, and failing, to buy explorer and businessman Steve Fossett’s submersible, after the adventurer died in a 2007 plane crash.

As a young man, Rush was more interested in space than deep seas: At 19, he became the youngest jet transport-rated pilot in the world, qualifying with the United Airlines Jet Training Institute.

For the next three years he flew for Saudi Arabian Airlines on his summer holidays from his aerospace engineering course at Princeton.

From 1984 he worked with the US Air Force on F-15s and anti-satellite missile programs, with the aim of eventually taking part in the space program.

Rush obtained an MBA from Berkeley and went on to work for multiple companies, specializing in sonar, subsea technology and radars.

Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate

He built a Glasair III experimental aircraft which he flew regularly, and his own Kittredge K-350 two-man submersible.

Rush always intended to take tourists to the Titanic: in 2017, he said he planned to then branch out to excursions to hydrothermal vents or deep-sea canyons, and underwater battlefield tours.

He then hoped to work with oil and gas exploration.

In 2018, the Manned Underwater Vehicles committee of the Marine Technology Society, a 60-year-old trade group, warned that the ‘current ‘experimental’ approach’ of the company could result in problems ‘from minor to catastrophic.’

The company also fired David Lochridge, who was Director of Marine operations for the Titan project, after disagreeing with his demand for more rigorous safety checks on the submersible, including ‘testing to prove its integrity’.

Additionally, the company opted against having the craft ‘classed’, an industry-wide practice whereby independent inspectors ensure vessels meet accepted technical standards.

Yet it emerged Tuesday that OceanGate’s safety record had been questioned by an industry body.

A 2018 letter to Rush, obtained by the New York Times, warned that ‘the current ‘experimental’ approach’ of the company could result in problems ‘from minor to catastrophic.’

It was sent by the Manned Underwater Vehicles committee of the Marine Technology Society, a 60-year-old trade group that aims to promote ocean technology and educate the public about it.

But it is unclear if any employee or Rush himself responded to the letter, and there was no further detail on why the approach was considered dangerous.

Officials searching for the missing sub have warned that they may not be able to rescue the missing tourist sub even if they find it.

The sub’s oxygen supply was at just 24 hours from Wednesday, giving rescue crews until Thursday morning to find it before it runs out.

Rescue crews from the US, France and Canada are still trying to find the vessel, which is understood to have last ‘pinged’ while directly above the Titanic wreck.

In addition to Rush, the passengers are British billionaire Hamish Harding; French Titanic expert PH Nargeolet; and Pakistani fathe and son Shahzada Dawood, 48, and Sulaiman Dawood, 19.

First District Response Coordinator Capt. Jamie Frederick said the Coast Guard has already searched 7,600 square miles of ocean – a search area the size of Connecticut.

At 12,500ft underwater, there are few vessels able to dive deep enough to find it.

It comes after DailyMail.com revealed that OceanGate refused to put their submersible through an independent inspection process and fired a director in 2018 after he asked for more rigorous safety tests on the craft, named Titan.

Bosses fired David Lochridge, who was Director of Marine operations for the Titan project, after disagreeing with his demand for more rigorous safety checks on the submersible, including ‘testing to prove its integrity’.

The company also opted against having the craft ‘classed’, an industry-wide practice whereby independent inspectors ensure vessels meet accepted technical standards.

OceanGate, which charges up to $250,000 for a seat on the submersible, suggested that seeking classification could take years and would be ‘anathema to rapid innovation’.

In 2019, the firm added that seeking classification for Titan would not ‘ensure that operators adhere to proper operating procedures and decision-making processes – two areas that are much more important for mitigating risks at sea’.

Classification involves recruiting an independent organization to ensure vessels like ships and submersibles meet industry-wide technical standards. It is a crucial way of ensuring a vessel is fit to operate.

The Manned Underwater Vehicles committee of the Marine Technology Society said in a statement about the tragedy that the ‘modern commercial submarine industry’ is ‘regulated in accordance with international safety standards through classification societies.’

They added: ‘These organizations have rules and safety standards for the design and construction of systems ranging from submersible vehicles to super tankers and oil platforms.

‘The main classification organizations for submersibles include the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Nortke Veritas (DNV) and Lloyds Registry (LR) among others.

‘The submarine industry has a safety record of fifty years without incident.

‘This is due to the engineering discipline and professional approach exercised by members of the industry, and the collective observation of (and adherence to) a variety of safety standards.’

The aviator took to Reddit and started a thread with the title ‘I’ve been a private jet pilot for 15 years – ask me anything!’

He explained that he has been a private pilot for around 15 years and that he’s qualified to fly the Citation 500 series and Embraer Legacy 500 aircraft, among others.

Then the questions came thick and fast.

One early enquiry, from ‘kay_till’, was, ‘What’s the craziest thing that has happened on a private flight’?

The pilot, who goes by the name Legacy500Driver on Reddit, said: ‘A lot of people assume the back of a private jet is a place of debauchery. Honestly, 99.9 per cent of the time it is boring. The occasional person will try to light a cig, and I have found a small vial of what I assume was cocaine, or an A-list athlete will party too hard in Vegas and throw up.’

Has he ever seen a couple try and become members of the mile-high club (user ‘GaryV83_at_Work’)?

‘Yes,’ the pilot wrote. ‘I can only recall once that I know of, and they were very subtle about it, but I happened to turn around and she was sitting on his lap and I quickly turned around.’

‘Do you get tipped by your clients?’ asked ‘Emotional-Reaction49’.

Legacy500Driver wrote: ‘Charter pilots can usually expect some tips. One of my fave passengers when I flew charters was a well-known football player for the Chicago Bears, who has since retired. I used to fly him to Vegas and he would tip $1,000 [£800] without fail.

‘Other perks are things like collecting hotel rewards points. I stay at Marriott properties and built up enough status and points that all of my personal vacations are free. The same is true for rental cars. Not to mention when a passenger goes to a cool destination, I am there enjoying it as we typically stay nearby in case they want to go home early. So if they are in Iceland for a week, so am I, and they are paying for everything.’

‘User-no-relation’ chimed in with ‘how much do you make?’

Quite a lot, it would seem.

The pilot wrote: ‘A pilot at my level can expect $250k – $350k [£200,000-£240,000] based upon a few factors such as home base, schedule, etc… ‘

‘Massive-Particular51’, meanwhile, wanted to know the identity of the most famous person the pilot had ever flown.

Legacy500Driver didn’t name any names, but did reveal that he’s flown ‘a former president, someone who played Batman, an A-list couple with many children that have since divorced, a well-known country band that has recently split, and various Oscar winners and nominees’.

Have you seen anything up there you couldn’t explain? This was a query from ‘Iamanediblefriend’.

‘I once was flying someone from Seattle to NY and as we got close to Chicago he remembered his favorite steak house was there and asked if we could stop

Legacy500Driver wrote: ‘Yes. Most things end up having an explanation, such as we realize it’s a weather balloon as we get closer. Once I saw something metallic that I can’t really explain, but it also didn’t do anything particularly crazy such as change directions quickly that made me jump to the UAP [unidentified aerial phenomena] assumption.’

‘Have you ever fulfilled requests to go elsewhere mid-flight?’ was the question posed by ‘justelectricboogie’.

The pilot said: ‘I once was flying someone from Seattle to NY and as we got close to Chicago he remembered his favorite steak house was there and asked if we could stop. Otherwise, we change destinations mid-flight based upon weather at the destination most often.’

Other questions touched on whether the Earth is round or flat – ‘most definitely round… at 51,000ft [private jets fly higher than commercial airliners] you can see the subtle curve of the Earth’ – what the pilot does with his time on autopilot – ‘check emails, listen to a podcast, take care of paperwork, keep a watchful eye and scan everything… and we have frequent radio communications’ – and whether a passenger ever did something that made him fear for his safety.

He replied: ‘Rarely, maybe too hungover or drinking a little too much on the flight but create a little artificial turbulence such that the drink would spill and they’ll stop.’

When asked for advice on getting over a fear of turbulence, the pilot said: ‘Know that turbulence while uncomfortable and can cause injury when not in a seat belt has rarely ever been the cause of an airplane crash. As in so extremely rare I can’t think of an actual crash caused by turbulence off the top of my head.’

One user asked if turbulence is less severe in a private jet than a commercial airliner.

The pilot said: ‘Generally less simply due to the fact we can fly higher. Airlines might be getting beat up at 35,000 and 38,000ft and we are smooth at 45,000ft. Very little weather ever reaches that high with the exception of a massive thunderstorm and even then it’s so rare it’s easy to fly around. Clear air turbulence can be at all altitudes but seems to diminish that high. We experience most of our turbulence on the climb out and arrival portions where we now line up with the airliners.’

The pilot also revealed the cheapest way to fly in a private jet, explaining: ‘The jet is sold by the hour, not by the seat, so if you find a cheaper single-engine turboprop or a light jet and find enough friends to fill each seat and split the costs then you’re going to be at about as low cost as you can get. Something like Phoenix to Vegas in a seven-seat jet for a night and back may cost $7,500. Split that seven ways.

‘Some companies will also try and sell empty legs at a discount. Say they have a jet in LA that has to get to Vegas for its next flight, they may try and sell that flight dirt cheap as they have to move it regardless.’
