Bruce Willis‘ wife Emma Hemming has admitted it’s ‘hard to know’ whether or not the Hollywood actor is aware of his brain illness.

In February of this year, Emma announced that the 68-year-old star had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) – an uncommon type of the disease that causes a deterioration in behavior, personality and language.  

Speaking to Hoda Kotb on Monday’s edition of Today, Emma, 45, fought back tears as she gave an update on Bruce’s ‘hard’ condition and said that just being in the know ‘makes it a little bit easier’.

When Hoda, 59, asked how Bruce is doing, Emma took a deep breath and replied: ‘What I’m learning is that dementia is hard. It’s hard on the person diagnosed. It’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce or myself or our girls.

‘And when they say that this is a family disease, it really is,’ she said, referring to her two young daughters, Mabel and Evelyn.

When asked how she went about explaining his illness to their children, Emma explained: ‘I think it’s always been… we’re a very honest and open household. 

‘And, the most important thing was to be able for us to say what the disease was, explain what it is because when you know what the disease is from a medical standpoint it sort of all makes sense.

‘So it was important that we let them know what it is because, you know, I don’t want there to be any stigma or shame attached to their dad’s diagnosis, or for any form of dementia.’

When mother-of-two Hoda asked: ‘Does he know what’s going on? Is that something he’s aware of?’ Emma paused before responding: ‘Hard to know.’

As Emma composed herself, Emma Dickinson, who is the CEO of The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), joined in and explained: ‘What we know is, obviously, the disease can start in the frontal or the temporal lobes like the name signifies.

‘One of the things that the frontal lobe controls is self-insight. We don’t know. Some people, that’s the first thing they lose, any understanding that they themselves have changed and other people retain that for a long time.’

Emma went on to explain how it felt coming to terms with Bruce’s diagnosis, and said: ‘I think it was the blessing and the curse. You know, to sort of finally understand what was happening so that I can be into the acceptance of what is.

‘It doesn’t make it any less painful, but just being in the acceptance and just being in the know of what happening to Bruce just makes it a little bit easier.

‘There is so many beautiful things happening in our lives. It is just really important for me to look up from the grief and the sadness so that I can see what is happening around us,’ Emma added. 

In a particularly touching moment, Hoda asked Emma what she thinks Bruce is teaching their girls as they all come to terms with his illness as a family.

‘Honestly, he is the gift that keeps on giving. Love, patience, resilience, so much…’ Emma said.

‘And he’s teaching me and our whole… I mean, you know, for me to be out here doing this, this is not my comfort zone, but this is the power of Bruce.’

Hoda continued: ‘I have heard from people that have an ailing family member, and I remember this from a friend of mine… she said, “my husband’s diagnosis made my kids better people”. Is that what you’re noticing?’

‘That is what I’m noticing,’ Emma replied. ‘Listen, I think my kids would be great no matter what! And this is not what I would want for them. But really, like I said, it is teaching them so much and how to care and love and it’s a beautiful thing amongst the sadness.’

She confirmed that she refers to herself as Bruce’s ‘care partner’ as opposed to his ‘caretaker’, and also noted the importance of taking care of herself as well.

‘It’s so important to ask for help and support. And you can look to organizations like the AFTD, like Hilarity For Charity… it is sort of a great starting point.

 

‘And it’s important for care partners to look after themselves so that they can be the best care, partner for the person that they’re caring for,’ she added.

Emma also has support from Bruce’s ex-wife Demi Moore and their three grown up daughters; Rumer, 35, Scout, 32, and 29-year-old Tallulah.

The great and the good of film and fashion emerged in Italy‘s style capital on Thursday afternoon as Prada unveiled its latest collection at Milan Fashion Week. 

Scarlett Johansson, Emma Watson and Sofia Richie were among the early high-profile arrivals outside Fondazione Prada as the celebrated fashion house presented its womenswear spring-summer 2024 range. 

Making her way inside, Hollywood star Scarlett, 38, turned heads in an elegant cross-strap dress from the high-end brand, cinched with a black leather belt. 

She completed the look with distinctively shaped heels, while cloudy weather didn’t deter her from wearing heavily tinted sunglasses.   

Opting for a stylish black halter neck minidress – Prada’s take on the classic LBD – Emma, 33, caught the eye as she greeted onlookers ahead of the first look presentation. 

Black stiletto heels continued a subdued colour scheme, while a simple leather handbag served as her only notable accessory. 

The Harry Potter star drew further attention to her delicately proportioned features by opting for deft touches of make-up, selected from a natural colour palette.

Meanwhile Sofia, 25, deviated from classic black, opting instead for a smart red roll neck and elegant Prada pencil trousers. 

The adopted daughter of Motown legend Lionel Richie completed the look with a sophisticated plaid coat, while black heels continued a recurring trend among guests at the exclusive event. 

Other guests on the day included British actor Benedict Cumberbatch,  whose floral patterned shirt and sweeping cream Prada coat ensured he claimed his own share of the spotlight. 

Elsewhere French actor Vincent Cassel, Spanish singer Rosalia and American actress Diana Silvers were also seen making their way inside ahead of Thursday’s show. 

Milan kicked off its catwalk calendar on Wednesday, with Italian luxury label Fendi exploring the “ease of dressing with a certain Roman freeedom” at its womenswear fashion show.

Milan Fashion Week follows New York and London events in which designers have been presenting their creations for spring/summer 2024.

At Fendi, founded in Rome in 1925 and now part of French luxury conglomerate LVMH, designer Kim Jones combined the “masculine tailoring” of leather coats with materials, such as kid mohair, that convey “a more fluid and feminine sensibility”.

Models, all wearing leather gloves, paraded among giant white bags, clad in warm browns, beiges and oranges, as well as a soothing sugar paper colour and an occasional lemon yellow.

A patchwork of fabrics recreated Fendi’s F logo on coats and dresses through “a playful and abstract exploration” of the symbol Karl Lagerfeld created in 1966, a year after joining the Roman brand as creative director.

Reinterpreted in multiple ways over the years, the logo was born as a double F in a square. Also, the colour palette was largely taken from Largerfeld’s 1999 Spring/Summer collection, Fendi said.

‘In Rome there is an elegance in ease and not caring what anybody thinks – that is the real luxury. In this collection I wanted to reflect that’, Jones said in fashion notes.

“It is not about the spectacle of being looked at, but the reality of wearing and the confidence and chicness that comes with ti”, he added.

Milan Fashion Week includes 62 physical fashion shows of spring summer collections. 

It runs until September 25 and will feature shows from high-end labels including Giorgio Armani, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace.

Milan fashion week will mark the debut of Sabato De Sarno as creative director of Gucci, Peter Hawkings as creative director of Tom Ford, and Simone Bellotti as creative director of Bally. 

Drew Barrymore‘s suspected stalker Chad Michael Busto was released from prison after being arrested for trying to break into Emma Watson’s dressing room – as a hapless prosecutor said the celebrity prowler’s offense was not eligible to have bail set.  

Busto, 43, was arrested on Friday night after he tried to bust into Watson‘s dressing room during New York Fashion Week, but the alleged creeper is already out on supervised release.

The move comes less than a month after Busto was freed by a Southhampton judge after he was arrested and charged with fourth-degree after stalking actress Drew Barrymore. 

Busto turned up at the star’s Hamptons home on August 23, two days after confronting her at a live event at the 92nd Street Y. 

Busto, who failed to show for a fitting for his GPS monitor earlier this month now has an active warrant for his arrest, a Suffolk County representative confirmed with DailyMail.com.

Social media users have claimed Busto is known to target female celebrities including Amber Heard. Someone named ‘C. Michael Busto’ was booted from a Facebook fan group for the actress for ‘sexual harassment,’ ‘threats’ and ‘stalking,’ the Daily Beast reported.

Busto has a long criminal history, including an arrest in California, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, and Wisconsin for disorderly conduct, trespassing and other crimes, according to Santa Monica Daily Press.

According to multiple police reports, Busto’s criminal record dates to June of 1999 and as recently as January of 2022. 

On August 21, Busto confronted Barrymore at an event at New York City’s 92nd Street Y during an interview with Reneé Rapp.

At the event, according to the New York Post, Busto shouted at Barrymore, ‘You know who I am! I need to see you at some point while you’re in New York!’

Busto was restrained from the stage by a guard on the premises as Rapp led Barrymore off the stage.

Two days later, he was taken into custody after he trespassed at the talk show host’s nearby luxury $6 million property in Sagaponeck.

Officials said he was seen scouring the Hamptons neighborhood looking for Barrymore’s home. The 48-year-old actress was not at the residence at the time he was apprehended, sources said. 

In an August 25 hearing at Southampton Town Justice Court, Judge Barbara Wilson released Busto – who was charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree stalking in the incident – under the condition he be fitted with a GPS tracker.

In the hearing, Busto told the court he was bankrupt and looking to live at a shelter. He said he was due to appear at a September 3 hearing in Texas in a federal court. 

Fourth-degree stalking is not a bail-qualifying offense in New York.

On Friday night, Busto was arrested again after he went looking for British star, Emma Watson, 33, at one of the fashion shows during New York Fashion week, TMZ reported. 

Busto reportedly entered a room at the Brooklyn Navy Yard located at 63 Flushing Avenue around 7:40pm demanding to see the Harry Potter star in a room bustling with models and makeup artists.

He shouted at onlookers as he pledged his love for the A-list celebrity.

‘I want to marry Emma Watson. Let me speak to Emma Watson,’ he reportedly said. ‘Let me take a photo with Emma Watson.’

Management called police and Busto was taken into custody and charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, one counts of trespassing and one count of criminal trespass in the third degree, according to a complaint obtained by DailyMail.com.

Several fashion shows were being held at the Navy Yard on Friday including, famed designer Ralph Lauren.

Though it is unclear if Watson was in the dressing room or at the fashion show during the ambush, the news outlet reported.

The Brooklyn DA’s office said Busto was held overnight at central booking after his arrest and was arraigned this week at Brooklyn Court before his release.

Busto is being represented by Jessica Kovac, an attorney with Legal Aid Brooklyn. Brooklyn Justice Initiative is handling Busto’s supervised release.

Kovac she did not respond to MailOnline.com requests for comment.

A Suffolk County representative told DailyMail.com on Thursday they were aware of Busto’s latest offense.

‘Brooklyn is out of our jurisdiction and we were unable to pursue the defendant due to the bail laws on a misdemeanor,’ a rep said.

They did confirm the warrant for his arrest on was still active. 

 Busto’s next court date is October 10 at Kings County Criminal Court in Brooklyn, for the Watson case, The New York Post reported. 

Busto told DailyMail.com he had crossed paths with Barrymore around 10 years ago, and was hoping to be in a romance with her. 

A source close to Barrymore said that the actress was not rattled by the disturbing series of events.

‘Drew feels good, feels safe, and even at the moment, it happened so fast she was OK and didn’t stress about it,’ the source said. ‘She has moved on from the incident as she knows that people were there to protect her.’

The source continued: ‘The one thing she didn’t want to happen was to make the incident the thing that was remembered for the night, so she forgot about it as soon as it was over, and she continued talking to Renee and revert the attention back to the conversation, that is what was important for Drew.

‘She is not going to change the way she runs her life and protects herself, all those things are and have been set for her during her entire life, and she doesn’t want anyone to worry about her wellb

Though it is unclear what Barrymore’s reaction is in wake of the latest news on Busto, a source told DailyMail.com during last month’s incident that Barrymore is in good spirits and does not want to change the way she lives her life after the scary incident.

‘Drew feels good, feels safe, and even at the moment, it happened so fast she was OK and didn’t stress about it. She has moved on from the incident as she knows that people were there to protect her,’ the source said.

When DailyMail.com reached out to Barrymore’s agent and legal team on Thursday to find out how the star was doing in wake of the latest news on her alleged-stalker they did not hear back.

Alex Scott and Emma Bunton led the way in the style stakes on Thursday as they attended the star-studded Attitude Pride Awards at London’s Langham Hotel.

Presenter Alex, 38, stunned in a strapless pink gown as she graced the red carpet of the awards, which celebrates celebrates some of the biggest LGBTQ + names from from film, TV, music and theatre as well as honouring unsung everyday LGBTQ+ heroes.

The former footballer’s dress perfectly hugged her curves and featured a sweeping train that trailed behind her.

Alex kept her accessories to a minimum for the occasion, adding simple diamond jewellery, while her brunette locks were styled in glamorous waves.

Meanwhile, Emma Bunton was chic in a plunging polkadot black jumpsuit.

The Spice Girl, 47, teamed her ruffle-sleeved outfit with a silver clutch and towering heels, with her look finished with sliver delicate jewellery. 

Emma allowed her blonde tresses to cascade over her shoulders and flashed a dazzling smile as she posed for photos. 

The ladies were in good company on the night as Monroe Bergdorf turned heads in her racy ensemble.

The model sizzled in a gold chest plate worn over a black dress with a daring front split.

Monroe teamed her dress with gold heels and appeared in great spirits as she posed up a storm.

Meanwhile, singer Loreen flaunted her washboard abs in a racy black bralette and matching maxi skirt.

The Swedish singer showcased her famously long nails as she posed this way and that for the camera.

While TV’s Dr Ranj Singh stood out in a bold blue number and Nick Grimshaw dressed up in an all-black outfit.

Great British Bake-off star Sandro Farmhouse cut a stylish figure at the event, while human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell opted for a smart striped shirt.

An artist has taken camouflage to the next level with her incredible body illustrations that see her models blend into beautiful murals.

Emma Hack, famed for her work on Gotye’s music video, paints the skin of nude bodies and has amassed over 500 million Youtube hits with her mesmerizing work on the famous music video.

Now the Australian artist will take her work to an exciting new level as she prepares to paint a model live for the first time in a UK gallery.

The 41-year-old will spend up to 15-hours illustrating the nude’s skin to make her blend into the background of an artwork.

The exhibition that will be shown at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery in London is made up of Emma’s latest collections.

The collection, entitle Blossom, features four wallpaper artworks by the later interior designer Florence Broadhurst that Emma uses as a backdrop for her models.

Emma who will be creating the live installation at the gallery on the preview day  says that she is not nervous to be doing her work in front of an audience but she is worried about becoming distracted.

‘I don’t find it daunting, but it is exhausting and time-consuming, also chatting to viewers distracts me so I do plan to create as much as possible prior to the public viewing.’

For Emma the process of creating her work can be a lengthily one as she says she has many things to consider when coming up with the design.

‘Generally I research the idea and look at photos I have taken from my travels. I consider what I want the viewer to feel, how the flow of composition appears for the viewer.

‘I then either paint a background or choose some wallpaper from an archive, before heading into the studio with my model, slowly painting her outer edges, then filling in the detail on centre of the form.’

In an exciting twist several pieces called Birds of a Feather feature live birds that are held by the naked models, who wear nothing more than a glove to protect their hands.

Emma says that having live animals in the piece can add complications so she doesn’t involve them until completion.

‘If there is a bird in the work, they arrive towards the end of the process and are positioned. I then photograph the results.’

Although Emma seems completely at ease with the nudes that she works with she admits that she wasn’t always so comfortable with the naked body.

‘In the beginning I found the nude models daunting as I have always been quite shy about my own body.

‘I think this is why I was trusted by my first models as I always make sure they are comfortable with what I am doing.’ 

Despite each piece taking between eight and 15 hours to complete Emma is not yet jaded by the process and says that working with animals makes her job entirely unpredictable.

‘You never know what to expect working with birds and animals. The owl is very cute, but also very naughty and it is hard getting him to look at me.

‘We tend to throw things on the ground or play phone sounds to make noise to get his attention.

‘It’s very hard for the model to hold a straight face while this is happening and quite often they get the giggles.’

The exhibition will be on show Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery in London from June 25 until August 2.
