President Biden has butchered yet another speech during which he referred to legendary rapper LL Cool J as a ‘boy’ after mispronouncing his name at the Congressional Black Caucus on Saturday night.

LL Cool J and MC Lyte received Phoenix Awards for their musical contributions at the annual ceremony in Washington DC.

While on stage, Biden, 80, said: ‘Two of the great artists of our time representing ground-breaking legacy of hip hop in America, LL Jay Cool J, uhhh…’ – as the audience laughed at his latest gaffe over the rapper’s name.

But he then added: ‘By the way that boy – that man’s got biceps bigger than my thighs’.

The footage of the speech was quickly re-posted by RNC Research on social media where commentators swiftly pointed out that referring to African Americans as ‘boy’ is widely considered a derogative term.

On X, formerly Twitter, one user said: ‘Ohhh god make it stop PLLEASE. He’s making a total mockery of this country’.

Another accused him of being an ‘ignorant racist Democrat’.

This is not the first time the president has found himself in hot water for using the term.

Biden was heavily criticized earlier this year when referring to Maryland‘s first black governor Wes Moore as a ‘boy’.

‘You got a hell of a new governor in Wes Moore, I tell ya,’ Biden told members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in February.

‘He’s the real deal, and the boy looked like he could still play. He’s got some guns on him,’ he added.

In May he also raised eyebrows after telling a White House attendee to ‘hush up, boy’ during an event celebrating Islamic holiday Eid-al-Fitr.

The awkward exchange came as the audience member, who is believed to be a Muslim man, interrupted the president as he marked the occasion before a packed crowd.

‘You want to come and make a speech?’ Biden responded after he was heckled.

‘Hush up, boy, as my mother would say’ he continued in a mimicked Southern drawl.

In 2019, Biden made a similar slip-up when he told a crowd on the campaign trail that he could work with all people – even those who he did not agree with.

He told how he worked with James Eastland, a Mississippi senator and plantation owner, who was an open white supremacist. Eastland resigned as a senator in 1978 and died in 1986, aged 81.

Biden said that Eastland respected him, declaring: ‘He never called me ‘boy,’ he always called me ‘son.”

Senator Cory Booker, who is black, rebuked Biden for downplaying the use of the word ‘boy’ to diminish black men.

Booker, on CNN, said it was inappropriate. ‘You don’t joke about calling black men “boys”,’ he said.

He later added that he’d had a constructive conversation with Biden about his use of the term, adding: ‘This is about him invoking a terrible power dynamic that he showed a lack of understanding or insensitivity to by invoking this idea that he was called ‘son’ by white segregationists who, yeah, they see in him their son.’

In 2021, the president also clumsily referred to Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama, who was 29 at the time, as a ‘boy’.

He told the Japanese prime minister during a press conference: ‘You’ve got a Japanese boy coming over here and guess what? He won the Masters. He won the Masters. He won the green jacket.’

Biden’s Saturday night blunder is just the latest in a long line of recent speech disasters as critics increasingly raise concerns about the president’s age and health.

During a speech in Washington on Thursday at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s 46th Annual Gala, Biden had celebrated Sister Norma Pimental, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, for her gala award.

Biden praised her for living the lessons based on the Gospel of Matthew before adding: ‘The Congressional Black Caucus embodies all those values.’

Just days ago Biden repeated the same story twice within minutes at a private fundraising event in New York, sparking further concerns about his age.

The story was one the president tells often about how events in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017, and the reaction of Donald Trump, inspired him to run for the White House.

On Aug 11, 2017 white supremacists and neo-Nazis descended on the city and clashes continued into the following day.

Biden, who was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, attended a fundraising gathering hosted by food security expert Amy Goldman Fowler at her home.

According to a White House pool report of the private event he began speaking just after 4pm in a living room in front of about two dozen people.

Biden talked about his economic record and reflected on his decision to seek the presidency and ‘talked about the events of Charlottesville’ as the reason for his campaign, the report said.

‘A few minutes later, he told the story again, nearly word for word,’ the report went on.

The incidents have sparked further concern about his age and health after he seemingly wandered off a stage failing to shake hands with Brazil’s president.

When in Vietnam earlier this month, his rambling press conference was brought to a sudden end with his mic cut and jazz music playing him off the stage, like he went too long in an awards speech.

Biden was mid-flow and answering questions from journalists when he was interrupted and forced to shuffle away and head backstage.

‘We talked about stability, we talked about the Third World, excuse me, the Southern Hemisphere has access to change. It wasn’t confrontational at all….’ Biden said as he rambled on.

Suddenly, the booming voice of his press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, could be heard butting in.

‘Thank you everybody. This ends the press conference. Thanks everyone,’ she said as she brought the presser to a close.

It’s set to be one of the hottest days of the year, with the mercury expected to hit 33C (91F) in parts of the UK today.

But while many welcome the six-day heatwave, which began yesterday and is set to run until Sunday night, others struggle to cope with the extreme weather.

Drinking plenty of water, staying in the shade and avoiding exercise and direct sunlight at the hottest points of the day are common tips to avoid overheating.

Here, MailOnline shares expert-backed ways to stay cool during the hot weather.

It is set to be one of the hottest days of the year. And without air conditioning it can be hard to stay cool

It is set to be one of the hottest days of the year. And without air conditioning it can be hard to stay cool

Avoid drinking coffee

Coffee may provide a much-needed boost of energy, but it’s not the best drink during hot weather.

The pick me up suppress the hormone ADH, which usually causes the kidneys to retain water when your body is low on stores.

This causes you to urinate more frequently than normal, resulting in dehydration.

So experts say it’s best to stick to water in hot weather.

Instead of drinking caffeine and alcohol people should  drink water. Feeling thirsty, dark yellow pee, feeling dizzy and having sunken eyes are all signs of dehydration in children and adults, according to the NHS

Dehydration — when the body loses more fluids than it takes in — can trigger splitting headaches, dizziness and tiredness.

It can even result in hospitalisation if it becomes severe — causing a weak or rapid pulse, fits or low levels of consciousness.

Feeling thirsty, dark yellow pee, feeling dizzy and having sunken eyes are all signs of dehydration in children and adults, according to the NHS.

The NHS advises people to drink caffeine in moderation during a heatwave. It suggests checking the label for drinks that are high in caffeine.

However, some experts have questioned coffee’s dehydrating effect, suggesting the loss of fluids it causes is replaced by the drink itself.

Eat spicy food

While a cooling ice cream may be most appetising in hot weather, tucking into a spicy curry may actually be the best way to cool down.

That’s because spicy food raises the body’s internal temperature, mirroring the weather, and causes it to sweat.

The active chemical in chili peppers, called capsaicin, can trigger the body to sweat and induce thermogenesis — the process by which cells convert energy into heat.

US researchers say this chemical stimulates a receptor found in sensory neurons, creating the sensation of heat and subsequent reactions like redness and sweating.

The body’s heat causes sweat to evaporate, which has a long-lasting cooling effect.

For comparison, downing a cold drink or having an ice cream raises the body’s temperature in response to being cold, leaving people feeling warmer.

Take a warm bath before bed

Staying cool when trying to sleep can be one of the biggest struggles during spells of hot weather.

And while it may seem, counterintuitive, running a hot bath could do the trick.

Sleep and core body temperature are both controlled by the brain’s circadian clock, which drives 24-hour patterns of sleep and wakefulness.

At night, body temperature drops by about 2C. This helps with conserving energy and directing energy to organs that need it.

But this cycle can be disrupted during periods of hot weather, potentially causing a miserable night’s sleep.

Researchers at the University of Texas found that taking a warm bath before going to bed will help your body cool down. This method works best when taking a warm bath or shower an hour or two before going to bed for a duration of 10 minutes

However, the science says hot baths can help you cool down rapidly.

Researchers at the University of Texas found that taking a warm bath before going to bed will help your body cool down.

That’s because the warm water causes the blood vessels in the surface of the skin to dilate, encouraging blood to flow from the internal core of the body to the hands and feet.

So, once you get out the bath, this causes the body to cool down rapidly.

This method works best when taking a 10-minute warm bath or shower an hour or two before going to bed, according to the report published in Sleep Medical Reviews Journal in 2019.

Put your bedding in the freezer

Fresh, cool sheets are the perfect way to get a good night’s sleep after spending the day in the sun.

And, though it may sound strange, putting bedding in the freezer can work wonders for lowering body temperature before bed.

Freezing your bedding allow the body's temperature to drop by the required 2C needed for good sleep. But remember to put your bedding in a plastic bag to prevent dirty bedding contaminating your food

As with the hot bath trick before bed, relaxing into cool sheets helps allow the body’s temperature to drop by the required 2C needed for good sleep.

But rather than causing your body to radiate heat away, this directly cools you from the outside in, preventing your internal temperature jumping back up as it readjusts to the outside.

Dr Mike Farquhar, a consultant in sleep medicine at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, said putting bedding in the freezer for a couple of minutes at night will help you stay cool throughout your sleep.

However, remember to put your bedding in a plastic bag to prevent dirty bedding contaminating your food or vice versa.

So you think you know what’s cool? Top 100 brands favoured by children are revealed with Netflix, YouTube and McDonald’s leading the way – and a few surprising entries you may not have expected

  • Lego, Spotify and TikTok all found places in the top 100, as did Greggs

The top 100 coolest brands favoured by children have been revealed with Netflix, YouTube and McDonald’s leading the way – joined by rather surprising entries.

Lego, Spotify and TikTok all found places in the top 100, with some less expected brands such as Greggs, Oreo and The North Face also making appearances.

The list, compiled by Beano Brain, the consultancy wing of the comics firm, is the second edition and has seen many new entries which has shaken up last year’s results.

Researchers spent a year speaking to 120,000 UK children aged 7-14, or Gen Alpha, as well as observing the clothes they wore and brands they used, before compiling the final list.

But in a blow to British companies, no UK firm featured in the top 30 with Harry Potter featuring as the first UK entry at 32.

Netflix is the coolest brand for 7-14 year-olds, the research found

This was followed by Greggs, which entered the list for the first time at 34, Sports Direct at 40 and JD Sports at 47.

The BBC has fallen 28 places in the cool league tables despite its efforts to pull in younger audiences, the largest drop of any company.

It is now just the 71st coolest brand among those aged 7-14 in a list in which no British brand made the top ten.

Just scraping into the top 100 were Home Bargains, Under Armour, Oculus, Shein and Wagamama.

Overall, almost 30 percent of the list is made up of food and drink brands, 26 percent retail and 23 percent gaming.

Helenor Gilmour, Director of Insight, Beano Brain, said: ‘Netflix reigns supreme as the king of the streaming services. Its ever-changing catalogue means kids feel it’s impossible to tire of the streaming platform.

‘There is something for everyone and every mood and it opens a door for kids to explore the world beyond their doorstep.

‘They can discover captivating content from across the globe and feed their desire for darker themes with shows like the hugely popular Wednesday and Stranger Things series, which provided universal thrills for kids and adults alike, with a feel-good side of nostalgia for the latter.’

She continued: ‘Kids love brands with salience and a clear proposition. It’s why Nike (Just Do It!) is cooler than Adidas and why Pringles, with their mouth-pleasing texture and shape are cooler than Walkers.

‘Kids love a sense of occasion from Apple releases to the ritual of Oreo dunking and they love sharing these with their families.

‘Brands that are there at key life moments will rank highly for cool. McDonalds scored well for their FIFA World Cup promotions and Fun Football Centres while Nike is King when it’s back to school.

‘Gen Alphas are the original YouTube generation raised on influencer collaborations, and so their discovery and loyalty are often driven by collaborations such as Nike Chunky Dunkys in collaboration with Ben & Jerry’s.

‘And let’s not forget, Gen Alpha are still finding their way and shaping their own opinions, and they really get behind brands that are brave such as Disney tackling puberty in the movie Red or championing diversity in the live action Little Mermaid.’
