Paige Spiranac may soon have some competition on the golf influencer scene.

With almost four million followers, Spiranac has long reigned as the self-described ‘OG Insta golf girl’ after dazzling fans on the platform with racy sporting photos for years on end.

However, there is a new talent emerging in the golf influencer space in the shape of 20-year-old Lilia Schneider.

Schneider, whose online following is yet to come close to that of Spiranac’s, is gaining popularity on TikTok after sharing a series of funny videos.

In one video of herself in bed, she wrote the caption: ‘They say if you get your girlfriend flowers it will shave 3 strokes off of your game.’

While she is a newcomer on the golf influencer scene, Schneider may also be a familiar face to some fans.

Last September the rising online personality made headlines when she was spotted with professional golf star Bryson Dechambeau at the LIV Golf Invitational-Chicago, amid rumors of a relationship between the pair.

After being photographed with a blonde woman, Dechambeau’s ex-girlfriend Hunter Nugent was incorrectly identified, before she told Outkick that the girl in question was his new love interest Schneider.

Reports suggested Dechambeau, who won the US Open in 2020, and Schneider were dating earlier this year, but nothing appears to have come from their brief romance.

Schneider currently has 54,000 followers on Instagram after earning a number of fashion collaborations with swimwear and athletic apparel brands.

But there is also brains behind the beauty, as she is also a marketing major on track to graduate from Marian in 2025.

Back in November 2020, Schneider announced her commitment to play golf at Marian.

‘I’m so excited and proud to be officially committed to play golf for Marian University!’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘Can’t wait for the next four years as a Knight.’

Schneider, who graduated from Rockford High School in May 2021, saw action in three golf events as a sophomore – according to the university’s website.

Calls for Covid face masks to return are ramping up amid increasing virus rates and the rise of a highly-mutated new variant.

An Atlanta college has become the first since the government declared the pandemic over to mandate masks for students and staff just days after classes began.

Morris Brown College, a private liberal arts school, is requiring students and employees to wear face masks in hallways and lecture halls for two weeks due to ‘reports of positive cases among students.’

Officials have also told students to maintain social distancing and banned all parties and large student gatherings for two weeks.

Meanwhile, in an editorial published by the American College of Physicians (ACP), Government doctors and public health experts in Seattle have called for face coverings to be made compulsory in all healthcare facilities once more.

They argue that hospital patients are at a higher risk of dying from or being seriously ill with Covid and would benefit from the ‘reduce[d] risk for Covid contracted in the hospital among patients and health care workers.’

The 10 experts — from Seattle & King County health department and the University of Washington — said we should ‘find ways to adapt to this new reality’ rather than ‘accepting unnecessary risks to patient and provider health.’

Talk of masking up in public has been gaining traction after the CDC said it was monitoring new Covid variant BA.2.86.

Numbers of Covid cases in Georgia have increased for three weeks in a row, but overall, the number of infections and hospitalizations remains low.

Meanwhile, the academic paper was likely written before the new variants came to light, and before Covid hospitalization rates started rising in the US.

Earlier today, a former FDA boss said he is ‘pretty concerned’ the variant known as BA.X, BA.2.86 or Pirola, which is ‘highly mutated’ and therefore likely to be better at escaping the immune systems of vaccinated or previously infected people.

Dr Scott Gottlieb acknowledged there is no evidence the variant is deadlier than older versions of the virus, but Covid fatalities in the US have already started to creep up, though they remain at near historic lows.

Hospitalizations and fatalities are now rising in the US, however, although these are coming up from historic lows and still well below this time last year.

In the article published Monday in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine, the ACP’s academic medical journal, said there is ‘rationale to integrate precautions’, including ‘the ongoing disease burden among persons at highest risk for severe Covid-19, the large proportion of transmission from asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic cases, uncertainty about the future course of the pandemic, and the effects of post–Covid-19 conditions.’

Statements expressed in the journal do not necessarily reflect the views of the ACP.

The researchers recognized that Covid cases have dropped dramatically since the pandemic due to vaccines, antivirals and increased community immunity, but said that ‘severe outcomes’ are still occurring due to the virus.

They argued that patients in hospitals are far more vulnerable due to age and underlying conditions.

The authors added: ‘If we accept the benefits of increased mask wearing in clinical settings, we should find ways to adapt to this new reality rather than accepting unnecessary risks to patient and provider health.

‘Perhaps rather than removing masks to improve rapport building and enhance perceived empathy, we could find ways to improve masked communication.’

Patients should also be allowed to ‘request that their providers wear a mask when they believe it is appropriate,’ the commentary said.

The authors said the masking could take different approaches, such as across healthcare settings in targeted settings like transplant, oncology, and geriatric units, where risk is highest for patients, but noted this is a ‘less desirable’ option.

It could also be done in certain months of the year when the respiratory season is highest, depending on where the hospital is in the US, or when the burden of respiratory viruses on the community reaches a level deemed too high.

They reference Washington State — where healthcare organizations decided to extend universal masking in patient spaces, with individual facilities ‘given the flexibility to tailor policies to their own unique spaces.’

When Biden ended the Covid national emergency, the Covid measures were meant to have been dropped for good.

But some UK scientists — known for making gloomy predictions earlier in the pandemic — are so concerned about the new Covid variants they have advised people to mask up again.

Masks have long been a controversial Covid strategy due to the lack of hard evidence that they are effective.

One of the most comprehensive meta-analyses of face coverings found that masks made ‘little to no difference’ to Covid infection or death rates in community settings.

The debate around masks first turned sour in 2020 when health officials flip-flopped on their effectiveness.

Then-NIAID director Dr Anthony Fauci said in 2020 that masks were ‘not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is.’

He later suggested people should wear masks as a mark of ‘respect’ for others. He admitted to lying to the public about masks’ effectiveness to prevent panic buying and preserve masks for healthcare workers.

The agency still recommends Americans wear masks in places with high transmission levels, such as on public transport.

Critics of masks claim they have hindered communication and children’s development and progress at school.

Rises in RSV and flu in the winter were partly attributed to face-covering mandates because they prevented children from gaining natural immunity to other illnesses.

A JUCO baseball head coach has resigned after two of his players were found to  have illegal communications inside their helmets.

Atlantic Cape Community College coach Rodney Velardi left his post, per the wishes of the New Jersey, after 13 years in the job.

The scandal came to light during an April 22 game vs. Rowan College Gloucester County, which Atlantic Cape lost 11-4.

‘After the situation with the game, he was suspended pending the outcome of the NJCAA Region 19 review, and at that time, we had asked for him to resign,’ Chief Marketing Officer at Atlantic Cape, Laura Batchelor, said via the Cherry Hill Courier-Post.

Rowan and Atlantic Cape had also played April 21. It was then Gloucester County pitcher Ethan Dodd had a sense he’d been tipping pitches. Turns out, he was wrong.

‘He had a feeling they were getting really good swings on pitches that he thought were good pitches,’ Gloucester head coach Rob Valli told the outlet. Before adding Dodd, in ‘hindsight’ was on the right path.

First baseman Felix Diaz told Valli there were noises emanating from his opponents’ batting helmets. Despite initial disbelief, he asked the umpires to conduct an investigation, in which they found communications devices inside the helmets.

‘I didn’t believe it,’ Valli said. ‘I just thought, nah. I didn’t believe it. I didn’t not believe him, but for that sophisticated of cheating, I just didn’t think they would do it. I didn’t think they would do it.

‘For me, I wasn’t going to go right up there in the first inning. We had to confirm that’s what it was. So, second time up, those same guys got on, and he was confirming with me the whole time. Once those guys got on, he’s saying, ‘I hear it. I hear it.”

An investigation by Atlantic Cape was not conclusive and according to Batchelor, Velardi admitted to using the devices in practices, not games.

‘We found that coach Velardi was in direct violation of the [NJCAA rules],’ she said. ‘Whether or not that was done intentionally, we couldn’t tell, but he was in violation.’

‘As an institution, we had no idea. I apologize on behalf of the college to Rowan College Gloucester County and anyone else that might’ve been affected.’

Wayne Rooney’s night coaching at a TINY college stadium – on Normal Avenue! Parking garage viewers, empty bleachers and a call to ‘DREAM BIG’… but DC United crash out the US Open Cup in Red Bulls defeat

  • Wayne Rooney coached in suburban New Jersey on Tuesday as his team lost
  • And it was quite the contrast from his storied playing career with Man United
  • DailyMail.com provides all the latest international sports news

16 years ago last week, Wayne Rooney played at the San Siro against AC Milan, as his Manchester United side were dispatched 3-0 by a glittering team of stars like Andrea Pirlo and Kaka.

Coaching has now brought him to far less glamorous locales.

The DC United coach manned his team Tuesday at tiny Montclair State University Soccer Park in New Jersey, as his side lost 1-0 to the New York Red Bulls in the US Open Cup.

While New York has its own 25,000 capacity stadium less than a 30 minute drive away, it’s not uncommon for teams to use alternate venues for cup games expected to garner lower attendances than regular season matches.

And that’s how five-time Premier League winner Rooney ended up at this 5,000-person stadium on a small college campus, which attracted around half of that to its bleachers on Tuesday.

The game took place at the ironically named 1 Normal Ave. Of course Rooney, a mercurial playing talent and loose cannon in his younger years, is anything but.

There were multitude examples of the small-town setting for this contest.

The game was played directly next to a parking garage, from which a number of penny-pinching fans took their perch to watch the game.

Those who did purchase a ticket were close enough after entering to hurl obscenities at the visiting DC United players. One chose to do so.

And while there were no chants singing Rooney’s name from an adulating Stretford End, there was a fan spotted wearing his United kit backwards, eager to show off the name.

Plus, Rooney didn’t even talk to reporters after the game – and stayed inside for at least a portion of pregame warmups – almost aware of the lack of pomp compared to his mammoth resume.

Over 500 Man United appearances and 53 England goals later, Rooney – had he chose a particular route to the field – still would have been greeted with a ‘DREAM BIG. AIM HIGH’ sign on the school’s campus.

A wrong turn could have feasibly sent him minutes away to a nearby student dining hall as well.

Nights like these are likely not what he dreamed of when venturing into management.

Nonetheless, the former United captain is certainly carving his own path in coaching, and having some success doing so.

He earned plaudits at Derby for the side’s performances amid their points deduction, and a DC side that finished last in the Eastern Conference last year is up to eighth place in MLS this year after 11 games.

Without Christian Benteke and Mateusz Klich in the starting up on Tuesday, though, his side failed to register a shot on target as they were eliminated in the fourth round of the tournament.

Just as he spent much of his playing career, maybe we’ll soon see Rooney working in top-flight English football.

Not yet, though, and Tuesday was a stark reminder of the distance he has to go.
