Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales ‘is ordered to double his child support payments

Suspended Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales has reportedly been ordered to increase his child support payments after being taken to court by his ex-wife.

The 46-year-old dad-of-three, now facing backlash after his unsolicited kiss of World Cup-winning player Jenni Hermoso, is said to have been forced to pay double the amount he previously handed over due to a ‘tenfold’ increase in his income.

Spanish TV station La Sexta reported a court in the east coast city of Valencia had ordered Rubiales to up his payments for each of his daughters from 400 to 800 euros a month.

His ex, who has been described as a lawyer and named in Spain as Maria Manuela Delicado Vega, is said to have asked for a revision of Rubiales’ child support payments after the football chief’s annual net income jumped from 97,000 euros in 2011 to a massive 955,000 euros nine years later.

In 2020, when Rubiales was on a near six-figure salary, she is said to have earned just 26,600 euros after tax.

The suspended FA chief, now a step closer to being prosecuted over the ‘unconsented’ kiss he gave World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso after she made a formal complaint, spoke about his daughters Lucia, Ana and Elena in a Spanish TV interview earlier this year.

He told interviewer Risto Mejide:’ They are very strong, stronger than me.’

He went on to describe his eldest daughter as a History of Art student, saying: ‘She’s a very sensitive person and has a strong compromise with herself and society.

‘The middle one is the one who is most like me, perhaps the most activist of the three. She’s also someone with an amazing intelligence.’

He also revealed in the interview how one of his daughters had once been ‘close to death’ after a fall which left medics needing to ‘drill her brain’ because of her head injuries.

His three daughters, believed to be aged 20, 17 and around 15, were present at a Spanish FA meeting last month when he insisted repeatedly he was not going to resign after the so-called ‘Kissgate’ scandal unfolded before his ex-hairdresser mum Angeles Bejar went on a brief hunger strike in support of her son.

Rubiales appeared to suggest he had a good relationship with his ex-wife in the interview, saying: ‘I think we have always done the best for the girls.

‘I don’t think the marriage was a failure, we were very happy, but when you move on to another phase in your life, well you move on.’

The reports about the increased child support payments, first published by respected media outlet El Periodico de España before La Sexta outlined more details from leaked court documents, state the decision was made by Valencia’s Provincial Court on June 19.

The decision pre-dated his suspension as Spanish FA president, which has led to him being deprived of his massive salary and other perks, and it is not yet clear what effect that may have on the amount he is expected to hand over in child support payments.

Rubiales’ ex is known to live in a modest house in a small town near Valencia with at least one of her daughters.

She declined to comment last month – to both Spanish and UK media – after the ‘Kissgate’ scandal broke.

Rubiales has not yet made any official comment.

On Wednesday it emerged Jenni Hermoso had paved the way for the prosecution of Rubiales by filing a formal complaint against him over his infamous World Cup kiss.

Prosecutors had given her 15 days to accuse Rubiales of sexually assaulting her by kissing her on the lips without her consent after Spain’s Women’s World Cup victory over England last month.

The action, which Rubiales says was consensual and has described as a ‘peck’, sparked the Kissgate scandal which led to the dad-of-three being suspended by Fifa for 90 days, a church hunger strike by his pensioner mum and the sacking of team manager Jorge Vilda.

Without it state prosecutors, now expected to ask a Spanish court to place the football chief under criminal investigation in the next few days, would have been unable to prosecute Rubiales.

A judge at Spain’s Audiencia Nacional court in Madrid would be tasked with conducting the probe and decide whether Rubiales should face charges before inviting prosecutors to indict the suspended Spanish FA president.

That is because the kiss which has caused turmoil in Spanish football happened in Australia and other courts in Spain do not have the authority to act.

Prosecutors agreed late last month to invite Jenni Hermoso to file a formal complaint against Rubiales.

The footballer has said the kiss left her feeling vulnerable and a victim of aggression. She has described it as ‘an impulsive, sexist act, out of place and without any type of consent on my part.’

Rubiales, who has apologised for grabbing his crotch during post-match celebrations in front of Spain’s Queen Letizia and her 16-year-old daughter, said in a lengthy statement last week: ‘The spontaneity and happiness of the historic moment led us to carry out a mutual and consensual act, a product of great enthusiasm.

‘At no time was there any aggression, indeed, there was not even the slightest discomfort, but an overflowing joy in both of us.’

Rubiales’ 72-year-old mum broke off her hunger strike at a church in her son’s hometown of Motril near Granada on Wednesday of last week after being rushed to hospital 48 hours into her protest.

She said she had launched it to get Jenni, who has now returned to the Mexican city of Pachuca where she plays her club football, to ‘tell the truth’ about the kiss.

Speaking from the inside of the church before falling ill, she said: ‘I just want the truth to be told.

‘She knows my son is very honest. If she tells the truth everything will be fixed.’

Referring to the World Cup kiss that has led to the so-called ‘Kissgate’ scandal, she added: ‘It was an anecdote, as she herself said, and look how far it’s gone.

‘She should have a conscience and act according to it.

‘My son is very worried and has asked me not to continue, to stop, but I will be here until I drop and my body can continue.’

Every child could receive a pot of £1,000 at birth to be channelled into long-term investments in UK growth under proposals to revive a ‘stagnant’ economy.

The idea of a ‘New Generation Trust’ is raised as part of a package of reforms that could add £225billion to the economy, according to a report by the City of London Corporation.

It revives memories of the child trust fund scheme launched by Gordon Brown two decades ago, later scrapped by George Osborne.

The report suggests: ‘The investments would be inaccessible until adulthood, when they would be automatically invested in an individual savings account (ISA) or DC [defined contribution] pension.

‘In so doing, the Government would be providing a source of long-term capital to UK businesses. It could also help to build an investment culture in the UK.’

The idea of a ‘New Generation Trust’ is raised as part of a package of reforms that could add £225bn to the economy, according to a report by the City of London Corporation

The report does not identify how this would be paid for.

It is among a number of ideas to boost growth. They include setting up a financial and professional services council, co-chaired by the Chancellor, and encouraging business to go digital.

Chris Hayward, policy chairman at the corporation, said: ‘Every element is about driving growth and creating jobs.

A trust could be an investment in our nation’s future.’ The report is targeted at politicians preparing for the general election.

Hayward added: ‘Whoever’s in power, we think the one common agenda item will be: once you get inflation down, once you get interest rates coming down, what do you do to drive economic growth? This country’s growth has been stagnant for many years.’

Killing Thatcher, by Rory Carroll. This book is expertly researched and deftly written but on top of that it hits three notes that particularly resonate for me personally.

Firstly, for someone who spent their teenage years in England in the 1980s, Margaret Thatcher and her political agenda cast a shadow that was impossible to escape.

Love her or loathe her, she left fingerprints everywhere — the economy, culture, housing, industry, job prospects, the UK’s standing on the world stage and the concept of society itself.

When I was 18, I moved from the comfort of the Home Counties to Sheffield, a city which was still reeling from the devastating impact of her policies.

Both these experiences helped to form my own memories and understanding of that era, so now I find it intensely fascinating to look back through the broader lens that Carroll focuses with four decades of historical context.

Finally, as we know, the attempt on Thatcher’s life did not succeed. But what if it had done? How different would my life, the country, the world, have been?

And for a novelist, ‘what if?’ is the most important question a person can ask.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, by Douglas Adams. (Or, preferably, a box set of all five volumes.) As well as containing useful advice for anyone who finds themselves marooned (Don’t Panic!) and valuable information to help pass the time (the meaning of life, the universe, and everything), the hilarious insights into the less attractive aspects of human nature and behaviour would no doubt soften the blow of being separated from the rest of the species.

Small Pig, by Arnold Lobel. I found this at our local library when I was quite small myself and it’s still one of my favourite books. It has everything — an appealing hero, a stroke of misfortune, a resulting quest, danger, imminent doom, last minute rescue and redemption.

But, more than that, it’s so beautifully written. Lobel crafted the most perfect sentences — the rhyme, rhythm, the flow — and his example is something I always try to live up to in my own writing.

I forget the title but it was a self-help book I came across at Heathrow airport years ago when I was killing time between flights.

The first chapter was entirely devoted to tips and techniques for giving up coffee. It didn’t just leave me cold — it left me running to the nearest cafe…

Scientists believe they may have identified a new species of human after finding an ancient skull that belonged to a child who lived up to 300,000 years ago.

The fossilised remains, which included a jaw, skull, and leg bones, were discovered in Hualongdong, China in 2019.

What bemused experts, however, is that the individual’s facial features did not match the lineage which split to form Neanderthals, nor Denisovans, nor us, leading them to suspect that we might be missing a branch from the human family tree.

Interestingly, researchers say the species ‘did not possess a true chin’.

This would make it more Denisovan-like – an extinct species of ancient human in Asia that split from Neanderthals more than 400,000 years ago.

The limbs, skull cap and jaw – which likely belonged to a 12 or 13-year-old child – all seemed to ‘reflect more primitive traits’, according to experts at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

But on the flip side, the rest of the child’s face had features more closely resembling modern humans.

It led the team of researchers to conclude that they had uncovered an entirely new lineage of hominins – a hybrid between the branch that gave us modern humans and the one led to Denisovans in the region.

This would mean there was the Homo erectus lineage which led to today’s Homo sapiens, the Denisovan lineage, and this third link in the hominin family tree in Asia which was ‘phylogenetically close’ to us.

Using the recovered fragments of the skull and jaws of the fossil, the team was able to discern that that this individual’s face resembled something close to a modern human, while it’s lack of a defined chin appears more like a Denisovan – an extinct species of ancient human from Asia

These differences have led the researchers to conclude that they have uncovered an entirely new lineage of hominin in Asia – possibly bolstered by genomic studies of Neanderthal remains in Europe and western Asia, which have found DNA evidence of a fourth lineage of hominin

The finding is also significant because past studies on Neanderthal remains in Europe and western Asia have found evidence of a fourth lineage of hominin living in the Middle to Late Pleistocene.

However, this missing group has never been officially identified in the fossil record.

In China, Homo sapiens only appeared about 120,000 years ago.

But this new research would suggest that our ‘modern-day’ features were around for far longer than this in the East Asian region.

Researchers think it may be that the last common ancestor of Homo sapiens and Neanderthals arose in southwest Asia and later spread to all continents.

The new study was published in the Journal of Human Evolution.

Police in France and Belgium said today they had smashed a criminal ring that used fake court summonses accusing people of watching child pornography to extort at least £3 million.

The phishing scam involved false emails from police, judges or institutions such as Europol threatening victims with prosecution unless they paid a ‘fine’.

The sums extracted from the victims ranged from less than £4,285 to up to £1,715, Colonel Thomas Andreu, head of one of the special French police units, told AFP.

Police said one of the victims – who had been stung twice by the crooks – committed suicide, and six others may have also potentially killed themselves.

Police added that they arrested 18 people in France and one in Belgium in an operation on Monday, with all but three of the suspects ordered to appear in court on fraud charges.

‘We thought that the fraud was being run by one central structure,’ Andreu said. ‘However, it turned out to be several little teams which were not linked.’

The scam began at the start of 2021, leading the cybercrime section of the Paris prosecutor’s office to open an investigation.

By June 2022 some 400 complaints relating to the scam had been made to authorities.

Commissioner Christophe Durand, of the French OCLCTIC anti-cybercrime unit, said the ‘victims had suffered real distress’.

Some of the money extorted from the men – who were aged on average around 60 – was spent in France, but most was sent to the Ivory Coast and other African countries.

The man who was hit twice was first made to pay £5,123 before the criminals asked him for a further £6,411.

‘Feeling powerless and trapped, he took his own life,’ the police said.

The suspects are aged between 20 and 50.

A former Republican councilman cuffed last month on drug charges has been arrested again at his Rhode Island home for first-degree child molestation.

Out on bail for a June 15 court appearance, Republican Councilman Matthew Reilly was arrested Thursday at his Rhode Island home before appearing before a court.

He’s now being held without bail on several more sex charges including the first-degree child molestation charge, as well as second-degree child molestation and enticing a person younger than 16 – for crimes that allegedly took place May 3.

They involve an unnamed 12-year-old girl police sources said Reilly met online.

He appeared in court for an arraignment hearing Thursday, donning a hooded sweatshirt and handcuffs before being led away to a Cranston lockup.

He is still facing an unrelated drug charge that saw him resign last month, three days after cops released bodycam video of him high on what they confirmed to be a cocktail of crack and fentanyl, laid out in the driver’s seat of his car.

Previously out on bail for a June 15 court appearance, ex-Rhode Island Councilman Matthew Reilly appeared in court Thursday after being arrested for several unrelated sex charges – which allege he molested a 12-year-old girl

Reilly, 41, resigned from his seat last month after police released body camera footage showing him high on what cops later confirmed to be crack and fentanyl

‘The arrest warrant resulted from an investigation by Detectives from the Cranston Police Special Victims Unit and the prosecutors from the Office of the Rhode Island Attorney General that began on May 7, 2023,’ Cranston cops wrote in a press release of Reilly’s Thursday arrest.

They added that the month-long investigation was launched after the department a complaint filed by ‘the legal guardian of a twelve-year-old girl’ who they added was ‘unrelated to Reilly’.

The guardian, who was not named, filed the complaint at the Cranston Police Department Headquarters police said in the release.

Court records show the incident in question took place on May 3, and sources told WJAR the allegations involve a young girl Reilly met online.

Prior to resigning, Reilly – who has two young daughter himself – had been in the midst of a messy divorce, during which he a legal battle with his wife over his kids’ custody.

According to multiple sources, at least two attorneys and a family court judge notified the court during those proceedings about Reilly’s drug use, while claiming engaging in sordid trysts with some of this clients.

Text messages produced by his wife’s attorney claimed the then rep was also medicating his own children with drugs like melatonin in order to go to meet with a client for sex late at night, and even conspired to frame his wife of violating a court-mandated no contact order.

The children’s mother added in her own statement: ‘In numerous occasions, I received phone calls from our eldest daughter in the middle of the night upset that she woke up and her father was not home.’

Despite this alleged evidence, no action was taken against Reilly.

His second arrest comes after a the month-long investigation launched after a complaint filed by ‘the legal guardian of a twelve-year-old girl’ cops confirmed was ‘unrelated to ‘Reilly’

Moreover, Reilly was asleep when officers came into contact with him, with video showing them attempt to wake Reilly, while he is the midst of what was assumed to be medical episode.

It was this divorce that would Reilly would later use to deflect responsibility for his recently recorded episode this May, in which he told police he relapsed after 13 years of sobriety.

Moreover, Reilly was asleep when officers came into contact with him, with video showing them attempt to wake Reilly, while he is the midst of what was assumed to be medical episode.

He was charged with possession of Schedule II narcotics.

Cranston police have released body cam footage from the incident, showing Reilly completely passed out, while holding a crack pipe containing the aforementioned illegal substances.

Three days later, Reilly was forced to resign. The now viral bodycamera footage showed him high on what cops confirmed to be a cocktail of crack and fentanyl, mouth agape in the backseat of his car.

‘You were literally choking in your sleep. Someone was flagging me down about it,’ one of the officers can be heard saying in the clip after cuffing the Republican rep.

‘I have sleep apnea. I’m sorry,’ Reilly argues – to which the officer responds: ‘Well, you have a crack pipe in your hands.’

The councilman from Cranston, Rhode Island, has since resigned from his position of chairman of the Cranston Republican Party, eventually stepping down from the city council a few days later.

Prior to resigning, Reilly had been in the midst of a messy divorce, during which hewaged legal war with his wife over his kids’ custody

He is due back in court on June 15

At the time, Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins decried Reilly’s behavior, saying she hoped he ‘is able to find a path to recovery and the help that he needs.’

He was charged with one count of drug possession and arraigned with a bail commissioner before being quickly released on bail

He is now being held on the aforementioned sex charges, which Cranston Police Chief Michael J. Winquist on Thursday declined to provide any further details on.

In an email Thursday evening to The Daily Beast, Reilly’s attorney, Michael J. Lepizzera, Jr., wrote his client had entered a not guilty plea to the molestation charges.

‘With these types of charges, I can see the general public and even close friends instantaneously turning their back on Mr. Reilly and drawing knee jerk conclusions,’ Lepizzera said.

‘I simply ask everyone to refrain from public ridicule and gossip and allow the legal process to unfold in the ordinary course.

‘While we may not have a perfect system of justice in this country (as nothing is perfect), my 30 years as a lawyer allows me to state that we have as near perfect judicial system as could exist and we should trust in the system to be the final adjudicator of the facts, the law, and any legal outcome.’

Reilly is due back in court on June 15.

Horrific footage shows a Syrian refugee repeatedly stabbing a toddler in its pram in front of his screaming mother in a frenzied attack at a French playground that saw four children knifed.

The attacker, identified as Abdalmash H, 32, launched his ‘abominable’ rampage in a lakeside park in Annecy, an alpine town in southeastern France, at around 9.45am.

Video shows the attacker running into the small playground and repeatedly stabbing a toddler in his pram while his screaming mother tries to protect him from the attack.

Further dramatic footage shows the attacker, a Syrian refugee who arrived in France last year, later being pinned to the ground by armed police officers at the park after being chased away from the playground by locals.

Horrified witnesses say mothers ran past them screaming ‘run, run’ in the aftermath of the frenzied attack, which President Emmanuel Macron has condemned as ‘absolute cowardice’.

Four children aged around three – reportedly including a three-year-old British girl – and an adult were seriously injured in the attack. Two of the young victims and the adult are now in a life-threatening condition at a nearby hospital.

Witnesses said the knifeman had begun attacking the preschool children while they were playing at a small playground in a scene of utter ‘carnage’. They said he had launched his onslaught on the toddlers because they were ‘easy targets’.

Witnesses said they heard the man shouting before he began attacking the small children in the playground. One of the injured children was in a stroller.

Horrific video of the attack shows Abdalmash H carrying a knife and running towards a screaming mother whose little boy is in a stroller before a local man hits the attacker with his rucksack and chases him away.

But the knifeman jumps into the playground again and runs towards the mother and her toddler. The woman screams and tries to protect her son with her body but Abdalmash quickly moves around her and stabs the little boy twice.

The toddler can be seen screaming in pain as the mother and terrified parents scream for help as the attacker runs away again.

But the carnage continues. Abdalmash H runs back towards the child in the pram and stabs him again in front of his horrified mother before he is chased away by a local man who throws his bag at him.

Further video taken minutes after the stabbing shows the attacker being chased by locals across the park. Parents can be heard in the background screaming for help for their injured children.

Soon afterwards, armed police arrived at the scene and were able to subdue the knifeman before he was arrested for the attack that left four children and an adult seriously injured.

Police sources told C-News that a two-year-old boy, his older sister, a three-year-old girl believed to be British, and a 22-month-old boy from Germany were injured in the attack. A 70-year-old man, who was sitting on a bench when the knifeman launched his attack, was reportedly stabbed in the neck and rushed to hospital.

Describing the attack, a witness who gave his name as Ferdinand told BFM TV: ‘He jumped (in the playground), started shouting and then went towards the strollers, repeatedly hitting the little ones with a knife.

‘Mothers were crying, everybody was running,’ said George, another witness and owner of a nearby restaurant.

Another witness, who asked not to be named, said: ‘The man was shouting in English, and caused absolute panic when he started attacking the little ones.

‘He wanted to hurt as many people as he could. He caused carnage. The young children were just easy targets.’

Former Liverpool footballer Anthony Le Tallec said he saw a group of people running at him before a mother shouted at him: ‘Run, run, there is someone who is stabbing everyone all along the lake. They are stabbing children, run run!’

He continued: ‘I was so surprised, I continued and then suddenly the guy appeared in front of me, then I saw the police who were ten metrrs behind him but they hadn’t managed to get him yet. He was so near to me so I got out of the way.’

Another witness told Le Dauphine: ‘We saw a person attacking children playing games, small ones, obviously that was his target. After people tried to scare him, he walked away and the police intervened.

‘He spoke English. At the beginning, we all thought it was staged, but with the cries of people, we realised it was reality.’

A man told broadcaster BFMTV he saw first aiders working on ‘little bodies, three or four years old, perhaps’.

The Interior Ministry said Abdalmash H is a Syrian national with legal refugee status in France after arriving in the country last year.

He was not known to security agencies and his motives were unclear, an investigative source said.

An investigating source said: ‘The attacker was a Syrian asylum seeker who has spent a lot of time in Annecy.

‘He was in a park square when he started the attack at about 9.45 in the morning. He targeted children indiscriminately, and also wounded an adult.’

An investigating source said Abdalmash H is himself a married father of a three-year-old, and a devout Christian.

‘He married a Swedish woman, and they have a child together,’ said an investigating source. ‘He entered France legally from Sweden at the end of last year.’

The source said Abdalmasih H. was a ‘declared and devout Christian’ who carried a prayer book and a cross at the time of his arrest.

Verified pictures posted on social media showed Abdalmasih H. approaching the children wearing shorts, sunglasses, and a scarf around his head before he launched his attack.

The knifeman was arrested soon afterwards following a brief struggle. Video shows three two armed police officers and a man pinning the attacker down on the grass before he was taken away.

Abdalmasih H. was himself seriously wounded by police, and was rushed to hospital, along with his five victims.

France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted: ‘Several people including children were injured by an individual armed with a knife in a square in Annecy.

‘The individual was arrested thanks to the very rapid intervention of the police.’

Mr Darmanin confirmed that five people were wounded, including four young children, two of whom are in intensive care.

French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted: ‘Attack of absolute cowardice this morning in a park in Annecy. Children and an adult are between life and death.

‘The Nation is in shock. Our thoughts are with them as well as their families and the emergency services that mobilised.’

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is now travelling to the scene of the attack, according to her aide.

Local politician Antoine Armand said in a tweet that children were targeted in a playground in an ‘abominable’ attack.

He wrote: ‘We still know very little but all my support for the victims, relatives, law enforcement and rescue.’

And François Astorg, the Mayor of Annecy, said: ‘Appalling attack this morning on the Paquier park in Annecy. All my thoughts to the victims and families.’

The assembly president, Yaël Braun-Pivet, said: ‘There are some very young children who are in critical condition and I invite you to respect a minute of silence for them, for their families, and so that, we hope, the consequences of this very grave attack do not lead to the nation grieving.’

France has been shocked by a number of violent incidents over the past few months, including the fatal stabbing last month of a nurse in the northern town of Reims. Also last month, a drunk driver accidentally killed three policemen.

Macron has denounced what he calls a “de-civilisation process” in the country, while opposition lawmakers say his government has been too lax on law and order.

“Nothing more abominable than to attack children,” National Assembly speaker Yael Braun-Pivet said on Twitter. Parliament observed a minute of silence to mark the incident.

An ultra-Orthadox Jewish grandmother has given birth to her 20th child in Jerusalem – but she still has a way to go before she beats the Guinness World Record.

The unnamed 42-year-old was rushed to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem after going into labour on Wednesday.

Nurses were left open-mouthed when the unassuming woman revealed she was already a mother to 20 and this was her 19th pregnancy.

The grandmother has spent a total of 14 years of her life expecting and has given birth 19 times, including to one set of twins.

But she still has a long way to go if she wishes to beat the current world record which is held by an 18th century Russian peasant woman.

The wife of Feodor Vassilyev (b. 1707–c1782), a peasant from Shuya, Russia gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets.

However this Jewish grandmother is giving her a run for her money, having already spent 14 years of her life pregnant.

Speaking to hospital staff, she admitted her eldest children were now beginning to start families of their own.

Midwife Aliza Altmark told The Times of Israel the woman in preparation for the birth when the mother revealed that she already had 19 children — including one set of twins — from 18 previous births.

Altmark said the mother was calm and relaxed and the labor took a few hours, longer than the woman’s previous births.

‘She was very excited about every birth, every child, even the 19th and the 20th,’ Altmark told the newspaper. ‘It also gave me a good feeling. She has sons- and daughters-in-law, and of course she has a lot of help at home.’

The hospital said the baby boy was born naturally and without complications.

The most prolific mother according to the Guinness World Record website was Mrs. Vassilyeva, an 18th-century Russian peasant woman who produced 69 children.

During 27 labors the Vassilyeva gave birth to a remarkable 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets.

THE WOMAN WHO HAD 69 CHILDREN

Mrs Feodor Vassilyev (b. 1707–c.1782), a peasant from Shuya, Russia was said to have had 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets.

Numerous contemporaneous sources exist, which suggest that this seemingly improbably story is true.

The case was reported to Moscow by the Monastery of Nikolsk on 27 Feb 1782, which had recorded every birth. It is noted that, by this time, only two of the children who were born in the period c. 1725–65 failed to survive their infancy.

Aside from her fertility, not much is known about the Mrs Vassilyev though it is thought she lived to the age of 76.

The Guinness Book of Records reports this historic record should be taken with a pinch of salt but adds it is conceivable the mother-of-69 could have had a genetic predisposition to hyper-ovulate.

This would have allowed her to release multiple eggs in one cycle which significantly increases the chance of having twins or multiple children.

It is also not impossible for a woman to have 27 pregnancies during her fertile years.
