Cattle ranch that feeds its cows BEER: Texas farmers swear by a secret ingredient that makes beef juicer

  • Beer is added to hay to help cows digest
  • The secret ingredient gives the beef a distinctive flavour

A cattle ranch in Texas has revealed the key ingredient behind its premium beef. The secret is none other than good old fashioned beer.

The Texas T Kobe ranch in Wallis, Texas, adds beer to the hay that its cows feed on. The ranch claims the yeast in the double IPA helps the cows digestion system and improves the flavour and texture of the beef.

The beer is sourced from a local brewery which is its self an award winning company, the Saint Arnold Brewing Co.

Texas T follows the tradition of Kobe-style beef, a method of herding developed in Japan that raises hormone-free, Wagyu breed cattle.

It’s one of the most expensive types of beef and is often considered a delicacy — it can cost up to $100 a pound.

Japanese ranchers would often massage their cows or feed them beer to reach the ideal flavor.

Ranch owner Gene Terry says his cattle prefers the beef-soaked hay to the regular kind.

It seems the usefulness of ChatGPT knows no bounds as even brewers are using the tool to make new beer.

German brand Beck’s is one of a number of companies to have turned to the clever AI chatbot to make a futuristic beverage, called Beck’s Autonomous.

ChatGPT not only came up with the lager’s recipe but also its packaging, name, advertising campaign and even a design for the beer’s website.

Beck’s is the first commercial brewery to work with ChatGPT, although other independent brew houses in North America have already done the same.

MailOnline gave Beck’s Autonomous a try to see how it compares with the brand’s flagship lager.

Every detail was made with the online AI tool ChatGPT, from the recipe to packaging, name as well as its advertising campaign. Beck's Autonomous came in a fancy box that gave a surprise when opened

Beck’s prompt to ChatGPT

Beck’s staff typed the following into ChatGPT:

‘Hello Chat GPT, we’re Beck’s a pioneering pilsner beer from Germany, and we’re turning 150 years young.

‘We are all about innovation, and A.I. is the future.

‘Can you create an innovative recipe that celebrated 150 years of Beck’s?

‘Please respect the Reinheitsgebot law and only use hops, yeast, water, malt.’

The response from the AI bot is being kept a secret.

Beck’s got ChatGPT to come up with the beer in celebration of 150 years since its founding in the German city of Bremen back in 1873, although humans actually did the brewing.

Beck’s says: ‘150 years of innovation needed a celebration that matched our pioneering spirit.

‘That’s why from recipe to marketing, every decision in the making of this beer was made by AI.’

Beck’s is keeping the recipe secret, although we do know it has the four essential components that make a beer a beer – water, grain, hops and yeast.

Beck’s also revealed to MailOnline that the new beer is a lager, meaning it uses a bottom-fermenting yeast.

A limited batch of 150 units has already been delivered to tasters for free, and the firm will study feedback before deciding if it will release it more widely for the public to enjoy.

After weeks of waiting for the limited edition beer, Beck’s Autonomous arrived in a fancy box sealed with special tape and adorned with a futuristic label.

Written on it is the tagline that ChatGPT also came up with: ‘The beer that made itself.’

What I wasn’t expecting was the box starting to speak to me in a robotic voice as soon as I pulled it open, accompanied by a green flashing light.

Like a scene at the start of a particularly odd Black Mirror episode, the voice said: ‘Beck’s gave complete control of their anniversary beer to AI to celebrate to celebrate 150 years of pioneering.

‘That’s how I was prompted into existence and now I’m here to give you a taste of the future.

‘I’m Beck’s Autonomous and I say, cheers!’

It turns out that the box is embedded with a sensor that triggers the speech whenever it detects light – so the welcome message goes off every time the box opens as long as it is dark.

Once I got over the shock of a talking cardboard box, I pulled out the 250ml metal can containing the precious liquid.

The can was covered with a weird bulky layer of black material that feels a bit like hard rubber, like the exoskeleton of a robot, worthy of The Terminator.

To be frank, it looked more like a can of Lynx Africa than something you would drink from.

What’s more, the can’s exoskeleton made it rather hard to pour so I spilt some on the table (and I had no such trouble with the glass bottle of Beck’s flagship lager).

The two lagers were notably different in appearance – the standard Beck’s was golden while the AI beer was a lighter and paler straw colour.

Beck’s Autonomous also poured with a much bigger head, which research suggests is a good thing because it helps deliver flavour

As many regular beer drinkers will agree, the flagship Beck’s lager isn’t the most challenging or delicious of beers on the market.

It has a gentle malty sweetness with little-to-no bitterness, making it a quaffable and therefore popular option for British pub-goers.

To my joy, I found Beck’s Autonomous to be an entirely different kettle of fish (or in this case, should I say, wort).

It was much hoppier – like a bitter or an English pale ale – and I suspect ChatGPT’s recipe featured more than one variety of hops.

There was also a slight sourness – a plus because I love the trendy sour beers that are increasingly taking over the taps at the UK’s hipster beer bars.

Beck’s Autonomous was certainly the winner, although admittedly the two beers are of very different styles and will likely target different consumers.

Beck's Autonomous (right) was more hoppy than its counterpart from the German company. Both beers are lagers, meaning they both use a bottom-fermenting yeast during the brewing

I would like to see the AI beer on the supermarket shelves soon, although I dread to think what the pricetag would be if Beck’s decided to sell it in the electronic gizmo.

Beck’s Autonomous isn’t the first ChatGPT beer – that title goes to Atwater Brewery in Detroit, which has been serving its Artificial Intelligence IPA at its pumphouses

It contains three types of malt and a whopping eight varieties of hops to give it a bitter punch, including centennial, citra and amarillo.

Whistle Buoy Brewing Company, in Victoria, British Columbia, also used the tool to come up with a recipe for a ‘hazy pale ale, fluffy and tropical’.

MailOnline tastes wine from bizarre flat containers that promise to slash the carbon footprint – so, do they live up to their glass equivalents?

Wine buffs may have been concerned to hear this week that the round glass wine bottle could become a thing of the past.

UK retailer The Wine Society claims a new flat plastic bottle makes wine easier to transport – significantly reducing the firm’s carbon footprint.

The new packaging is lighter – 63g each compared to an average of 460g for one glass bottle – and can be stacked during transport like a set of books.

But instead of glass, the bottles are made from rPET – a recycled form of polyethylene terephthalate, which is commonly used for making soft drinks bottles.

So, does rPET packaging make the wine taste like plastic? MailOnline bravely performed thorough taste tests in the name of science to find out.

Shocking video emerges of father drinking bottle of beer while his 11-year-old son flies their private plane – as cops investigate whether it happened just before fatal crash that prompted his wife to kill herself

  • Garon Maia, 42, and his 11-year-old son, Francisco Maia, died in a plane crash July 29
  • Now Brazilian authorities are looking into whether the elder Maia allowed his son to fly the aircraft the day of the accident as a video shows him operating it
  • Garon Maia’s wife and the boy’s stepmother, Ana Pridonik, shot herself dead Tuesday hours after the burial

A disturbing video shows the moment a father let his 11 year-old son pilot his private plane – while he swigged beer – shortly before the two were killed in a crash.

Authorities in Brazil are now investigating whether the incident took place before they were killed in the deadly plunge.

Garon Maia, 42, a Brazilian rancher and his Francisco Maia, 11, died after the twin-engine Beechcraft Baron 58, priced at $1.2 million, crashed in a forest located between the states of Rondônia and Mato Grosso on July 29.

It’s unclear when the video in question was posted by Garon Maia on his social media.

He can be seen sitting in the copilot seat and instructing Francisco Maia on how to operate the plane as it sped down the dirt runway.

Overcome with grief, Ana Pridonik, his wife took her own life following the burial.

‘Wait, everything ready? Nothing in front, ok. Come on, 600 horses, you can push. 600 Kikão, go,’ he says. ‘Good lady. Hand on the lever, hand on the lever. Keep your hand there and look at the speed.’

Moments later, Garon Maia is seen drinking a beer and asks his son, ‘The passenger can have one, right Kiko?’

The elder Maia flew out of a family farm in the Rondônia city of  Nova Conquista and then stopped at an airport in Vilhena to refuel, a farm employee told Brazilian outlet G1.

He was planning to fly his son back to Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, where he lives with his mother and attends school.

The aircraft took off at 5:50 pm, crashed eight minutes later and then disappeared from the radar, according to authorities.

‘The plane crashed very close to the plowed land, he didn’t have time to land,’ the worker said.

Rescue workers searched the area Saturday and were able to locate the bodies Sunday.

Garon Maia and Francisco Maia were laid to rest Tuesday.

His wife, Ana Pridonik, 27, was found in the couple’s bedroom after she allegedly shot herself following the burial. She was rushed to a local hospital where she died.

The Research Center for the Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents is investigating the cause of the crash.

According to Brazilian law, a person has to be over the age of 18 to fly an airplane, must have graduated from high school and been registered with the National Civil Aviation Agency.

Jason Kelce downed a massive beer in impressively fast fashion during a fundraiser on Wednesday.

The Eagles offensive lineman and his brother, Chiefs tight end Travis, bartended at Ocean Drive in Sea Isle City, New Jersey in a event benefitting the Eagles Autism Foundation and Jason’s personal charity, Team 62.

But the 35-year-old had some drinks of his own as well, racing local radio host James Seltzer in a beer-chugging contest.

Kelce finished a large glass of beer in less than six seconds, raising his arms in celebration afterwards.

It was the third time the annual event was held, and Kelce basked in the fun of it afterwards.

‘You get to be out and about with good people all looking to have fun, it’s a good time.’

According to the Eagles, the event raised $100,000 for the Eagles Autism Foundation, and Jason’s teammates Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox were in attendance as well.

The Kelce brothers faced off in the Super Bowl in February, with Travis’ Chiefs edging out a 38-35 win over the Eagles.

Manchester City‘s Champions League title celebrations are in full-swing and look set to go on long into the evening as players popped open beers at 2am and Jack Grealish showed off his karaoke skills.

City stars are set for an extended period of partying in Istanbul after beating Inter Milan 1-0 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium to lift the club’s first Champions League title and become only the second English team in history to secure the treble.

Pep Guardiola and his players had to navigate their way past a difficult Inter side that tested their resolve, however victory inside 90 minutes ensured deserving players have plenty of time to hit the Turkish city in celebration.

Footage from inside the dressing room showed England international Grealish joining in with a rendition of Fleetwood Mac‘s 1987 hit song ‘Everywhere’ with new words added in to represent City’s European success.

The 27-year-old winger was in tears at full-time as he expressed his joy at winning European football’s greatest honour and spared no time in sinking a beer with his team-mates after the match.

He was momentarily joined by Norwegian team-mate Erling Haaland during his social media video toasting City’s triumph before the striker headed out of shot to re-join the party.

Grealish is known to enjoy letting his hair down in the offseason and was one of a number of City players that were quick to grab a well-deserved beer as realisation of their achievement began to sit in.

He posed with City kitman Brandon Ashton as the duo swigged from cans of Heineken.

Meanwhile, Haaland managed to get his hands on the iconic trophy that was being passed around the changing facilities and paused to get a picture that will be adored by supporters all around the world.

He also shared a snap of himself biting down on his gold winners medal that was uploaded without a caption in an already viral post.

Details surrounding the afterparty celebrations had been kept relatively quiet with players refusing to reveal what was scheduled, although Guardiola admitted a party was planned with family and friends at the team hotel.

Long-standing City servant Riyad Mahrez also spent time posing with the two-handled Champions League silverware as he told the camera ‘get in there, come on’ while being joined by Kyle Walker who cheekily observed as he peered over.

Mahrez later enjoyed some one-on-one time with the famous trophy as he lifted it in the air while smiling down the camera lens.

A jubilant Walker additionally gave insiders a look into the dressing room antics by going live on his Instagram channel and giving his 3.5million followers a sneak peak into the life of Champions League winners.

The England full-back was ‘disappointed’ to have been left on the bench by Guardiola for the final, but showed no signs of animosity in the aftermath of victory.

He positioned himself in the middle of a topless Haaland and Portuguese defender Ruben Dias.

Walker pointed his phone at Haaland and said ‘what a first season’ in response to the 22-year-old’s 52 goals campaign who pumped his fist and grinned back at the camera.

He was then joined by Dias as the duo sarcastically analyse their achievement with Walker stating: ‘We delivered the treble, just the treble.’

Dias matches his team-mates attitude and casually told Walker ‘in the end it is just another day at the office.’

Team captain Ilkay Gundogan didn’t waste time in getting ready after the match and was filmed drying himself with a hairdryer while ‘we are the champions’ echoed around the changing room.

Players eventually began to filter out of the dressing room and Mail Sport’s Lewis Steele was present in the media mix zone to catch City players leaving with beers in hand as they avoided answering any more post-match questions.

Grealish was clearly still in the mood for a singalong as he turned out with a speaker booming the same song as before and danced with another beer as he strolled away.

John Stones, dressed in a white team hoodie and tracksuit bottoms, toasted waiting journalists with a can of beer as he strolled his way towards the team coach.

He was then joined by Walker who opted for a shorts and t-shirt style and telling reporters ‘thank you’ as he similarly raised a bottle of lager to the crowd.

Meanwhile, there was chaotic scenes after full-time as City supporters reportedly emerged to find no shuttle buses back to Istanbul city centre had been laid on for them.
