An Australian tour guide drives through a river filled with 600 crocodiles to get to work every day – and the terrifying journey frequently has him fearing for his life.

David McMahon, 36, is a head tour guide for Venture North Safaris in Australia’s Northern Territory.

‘I’ve been guiding in Northern Australia for over 15 years through some of the most remote and spectacular parts of the country,’ he told FEMAIL.

One of David’s tours see him cross the East Alligator River at Cahill’s Crossing – a deadly journey that has claimed two lives in the past.

‘I don’t think this is everyone’s idea of a commute to work – but things are a bit different up here in the Top End,’ he said.

He then shared a short clip that showed almost 15 crocodiles monitoring his car.

‘I’m crossing the mighty East Alligator River – they’re lined up as the diamond scale mullet and barramundi are swimming up the crossing,’ he explained about the starving crocodiles.

David shared that the disparity in the name and creature occurred because English explorer Phillip Parker King couldn’t tell alligators and crocodiles apart.

‘This is truly such a wild place,’ David said, gazing out onto the deadly reptiles.

He told FEMAIL: ‘There has been many times over the years when I’ve crossed this river with my heart in my mouth!

‘The worst is at night time, and there was one occasion I had to cross it really deep when the tide had stopped and before it started rushing out again.

‘As soon as I entered the water, the headlights went under and I had to do the crossing blind – knowing exactly what was waiting for me if I made a mistake.’

But despite the frequent dose of terror, David truly loves his job.

‘I love being able to share the beauty of Northern Australia with guests from around the world,’ he said.

‘It’s such a wild place up here and there are fewer and fewer places on the planet like this.

‘To spend so much time in the bush is a privilege I never take for granted and I honestly can’t pick a part of the job I don’t love,’ he added.

Many were shocked by David’s arduous commute and commended him for his bravery.

‘I’d be so afraid of doing that – too close for comfort,’ a woman said. ‘Good on you!’

‘My anxiety peaked watching that, you’re so brave,’ another added.

While others chose to combat their fear with humour.

‘That’s the road my dad crossed everyday on foot to get to school,’ one wrote.

‘At least you don’t get stuck in a traffic jam there,’ a second said.

An Australian traveller has shared her ‘honest review of the Amalfi Coast’ and why the popular tourist destination is ‘not for the faint hearted’.

Isabella Highfield and her partner, from Sydney, visited the picturesque must-see Italian town in early August but were left disappointed.

While Isabella described the Amalfi Coast as ‘one of the most beautiful places she’s ever been to’, it was tainted by awful experiences.

She claims catching jam-packed buses felt like a ‘death wish’, restaurants charged ‘too much’ for a bowl of pasta and she felt sick by the smell of body odour.

The experience left the couple wanting to flee and travel back home as soon as possible.

Isabella Highfield and her partner, from Sydney, visited the Amalfi Coast in Italy but their travels didn't go to plan. She claims catching jam-packed buses felt like a 'death wish', restaurants charged 'too much' for a bowl of pasta and she felt sick by the smell of body odour

Isabella Highfield and her partner, from Sydney, visited the Amalfi Coast in Italy but their travels didn’t go to plan. She claims catching jam-packed buses felt like a ‘death wish’, restaurants charged ‘too much’ for a bowl of pasta and she felt sick by the smell of body odour

Isabella detailed her experience in a five-minute TikTok video that’s now been viewed more than 70,000 times.

‘Let’s start with getting here. We are staying in a little town called Minori which is one across from Amalfi. Whichever town you stay in on the Amalfi Coast … you first have to get to Salerno which is the main train station,’ she said.

Complains about the Amalfi Coast:

It takes hours to arrive at the destination by train from Rome

Packed buses ‘whirl’ around roads

People don’t seem to use deodorant

Too many tourists all in one small spot

Expensive food

Ferries don’t run on time to schedule

It took the couple five hours to travel to Salerno on the train from Rome via Naples, which she said was a hassle in itself.

But the bus ride to their hotel was possibly the most terrifying experience of the whole trip.

‘We had to catch the bus to Minori … it took over an hour. When I say I’ve never experienced anything in my life like this before, it’s not an understatement,’ she continued.

‘I’m talking about a one-way street they somehow manage to fit three, four lanes of cars depending if there’s people parked on the side of the road.

‘The buses drive at literally 100km/h whirling, whirl-ing around corners.’

She claims it seemed like two buses driving in opposite directions were only ‘millimetres’ away from each other.

‘It’s wild, and they just honk their horns around the corners for safety. I honestly thought I was going to die,’ Isabella recalled.

‘Not to mention the other motorists or motorcyclists that swerve in and out of these cars, or walk on the side of the road.’

This year in particular thousands of Australians have travelled to Europe for the ultimate summer holiday, but Isabella said the sheer number of people visiting Amalfi was ‘overwhelming’.

‘Not to mention that I think people in general doesn’t know what deodorant is because the smell.. I mean it is hot..,’ she said.

‘If you’re not gonna be sick from the buses, you are gonna be sick from the smell of people.’

Isabella also claims the ferries and buses ‘don’t arrive’ on time based on the schedule – so plan ahead.

She added how the lines for the ferry are unorganised

‘We had to catch a ferry from Amalfi to Positano … but there’s one line, and hundreds and hundreds of people all waiting in line for lots of different ferries, but one line,’ she said.

‘So when your ferry comes and you’re right at the end of the line, you’ve just got to push your way through people that don’t want to get on that ferry.

‘Like, why not just have six different lines? It’s honestly not that hard, there’s definitely room for it.’

The entire ordeal left Isabella ‘frustrated’ and feeling the need to ‘rant about it’.

As a whole, likely because of the surge in popularity in recent years, Isabella found Amalfi to be an expensive place to visit.

She dubbed the food as ‘average’ and ‘expensive’ compared to other parts of Italy.

‘Some places are charging €36 ($60 AUD) for a plate of pasta. It’s f***ing flour and water!’ she added.

After watching Isabella’s video opinions were divided and some agreed with her.

‘My sister HATED IT! Said the bus trip to get there was the scariest thing ever,’ one commented.

‘Agree overly priced,’ another said, a third added: ‘We were there last week and we had nearly the same experience.’

However others felt like Isabella was overreacting.

‘Epic dramatisation,’ one wrote, another said: ‘The train from Rome to Salerno is one hour and an half. Logically the cheapest one is four hours.’

‘The problem is that lot’s of people try travelling without information of the place their visiting,’ a third said.

Others recommended thoroughly researching a destination before travelling.

Ebanie Bridges is savaged by fans who call Aussie boxing champion a ‘clout chaser’ after she glammed up for the ‘worst PR disaster in history’ with UFC bad boy Conor McGregor

  • Bridges and McGregor spark frenzy at boxing event
  • Bridges criticised for ‘chasing clout’ with McGregor
  • Some fans believed Bridges is dating McGregor

Australian boxing world champion Ebanie Bridges has copped savage criticism from fans after attending the Anthony Joshua fight with UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a revealing outfit.

Bridges created headlines all over the world when she attended Katie Taylor’s homecoming fight against Chantelle Cameron in Dublin with McGregor back in May.

She and McGregor posed for several photos that quickly went viral, with the Aussie IBF bantamweight queen later joking that she felt she’d been ‘manhandled’ by the UFC great.

This time Bridges showed up to the O2 Arena as part of McGregor’s entourage with a couple of other scantily clad women, showing support for McGregor’s Irish Forged Stout beer.

She posted on twitter: ‘Keep an eye out for me ringside with my pal @TheNotoriousMMA and make sure you get a @ForgedStout.’

However, not everyone was impressed by seeing the pair together at the event, with some insisting the former Sydney maths teacher was ‘chasing clout’.

‘Worst PR disaster in history. No respect or dignity,’ commented one Instagram user.

‘Biggest clout chaser I’ve ever seen proper desparado. Cocaine Conor,’ said another.

‘You were following him around like a lost dog last night. Half embarrassing,’ said a third.

‘Do anything for a fiver. Embarrassment to boxing,’ replied another.

Others were outraged on behalf of McGregor’s fiancée Dee Devlin, whom he has three young children with.

‘He’s a married man your lowering your self hanging about him half naked, you’re world champ you ain’t gotta do that,’ said one Instagram user.

‘Home wrecker,’ another wrote.

‘Bet Conners wife is loving this lmao,’ said a third.

Bridges also copped plenty of criticism when she launched her OnlyFans account in December before her spiteful world title showdown with rival Shannon O’Connell, and says she doesn’t regret the move one bit.

‘I was the first female boxer on OnlyFans, but now you’ve got Mikaela Mayer, Siniesa Estrada, guys like Devin Haney, Derek Chisora, Andy Ruiz, a whole bunch of influencers that are using it,’ Bridges told News Corp.

‘It’s not porn, it’s moving away from porn.

Considering the fact Bridges’ fellow Aussie, music star Iggy Azalea, says she’s earning millions from OnlyFans, the boxer is likely seeing exponential growth in her bank balance – even if the move has seen her get criticised online.

‘It’s like when I first came on the [boxing] scene and I was weighing in in lingerie, it’s something different and people can’t handle it, they’re not open-minded,’ she said.

‘For me personally I have to do what’s right for me and it [OnlyFans] is setting up generational wealth.

‘Women’s boxing is not like the men’s [in terms of earning power] – we’re getting there – but why wouldn’t I make money on the side if I can?’

Bridges is immensely popular with fight fans thanks to her all-or-nothing style in the ring, risky sense of humour, intelligence and habit of wearing eye-catching outfits to her weigh-ins.

The Voice Australia coach Jason Derulo slams extremely popular Aussie food staple

Jason Derulo has been living in Sydney, Australia as he films the local edition of The Voice

While the American singer has enjoyed some of the local delicacies, there is one he is very much not a fan of.

During Sunday’s episode of The Voice Australia, the 33-year-old was encouraged to try popular local toast spread Vegemite.

With his eyes closed and wearing an Outback cork hat, Jason was fed Aussie foods by his fellow judges Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian.

The sharp, salty yeast concoction is a favourite with many Australians but Jason was horrified.

‘Woah,’ he said after taking a sniff of the spread, with his co-star Rita assuring him, ‘It’s not bad at all’.

Jason recoiled as the Vegemite spread all over his teeth, clearly disliking the taste.

‘Not gonna lie, that Vegemite was not it. I was like, “Oh damn, they just fed me s**t on live television,”‘ he said.

Jason was more impressed by Arnott’s Tim Tam chocolate biscuits, which he called, ‘unbelievable’ and said he ‘loved’.

It comes after the star revealed that there is no competition when it comes to whether the coffee is better Down Under or in the USA.

‘I think so, I really do,’ he said to The Daily Telegraph when asked if Australia has better coffee than his homeland.

Jason has been spending time in Sydney during filming and told the publication that he’s enjoying his stay.

‘I got to sink my teeth into a routine and the culture of Australia,’ he explained.

‘I’ve always really loved Australia, but this is the first time where I got to spend some time there so being able to go to a gym that I like going to, and having favourite restaurants, that’s really cool.’

Aussie Olympian Peter Bol has been ‘completely exonerated’ after being branded a drug cheat – as big mistake with test result is revealed

  • Returned positive result for EPO in January
  • Has always maintained his innocence
  • New development ‘a dream come true’

Australian Olympian Peter Bol has officially been exonerated after Sport Integrity Australia declared it would not progress with an anti-doping rule violation and closed its investigation into his false positive for synthetic EPO.

In January the 28-year-old was shocked to learn he returned a positive finding for EPO and was suspended from athletics throwing his life into chaos.

Bol proclaimed his innocence and a subsequent independent analysis of the athlete’s B-sample returned an atypical finding, or a false positive.

Sport Integrity Australia continued to investigate Bol, however, re-testing samples before ultimately on Tuesday deciding to close his case, freeing him to compete unfettered a year out from the Paris Olympics.

Bol posted a message on social media on Tuesday morning revealing the good news.

‘I have been exonerated. It was a false positive like I have said all along! The news from Sport Integrity Australia today was a dream come true.

Bol (pictured after winning silver at the 800m final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games) described his exoneration as 'a dream come true'

Bol (pictured after winning silver at the 800m final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games) described his exoneration as ‘a dream come true’

‘I am glad that WADA has agreed to review the EPO testing process to prevent future false positives. No one should ever experience what I’ve gone through this year.

‘My focus now is the world athletics championships coming up in Hungary. I am in good form and feeling well.’

A statement from Sport Integrity Australia revealed they had used different laboratories and various experts from the World Anti Doping Authority to analyse Bol’s A and B blood samples.

They found the A sample should have been a negative.

‘The further analysis resulted in varying expert opinions as to the positive or negative reporting of the sample, and the A sample was reported as negative,’ the SIA statement said.

The 28-year-old (pictured at the 2020 Olympics) has sparked a review of how athletes are tested for the performance-enhancing drug EPO

‘As a result, Sport Integrity Australia have taken the decision not to progress an anti-doping rule violation for this sample. The investigation into this sample is finalised.’

The World Anti-Doping Agency acknowledged the announcement from Sport Integrity Australia and vowed to ‘undertake a review of current EPO processes’ after Bol’s nightmare.

‘While we have no reason to question the validity of the analytical method used for recombinant EPO, WADA will assess the current review process in light of the particularities of this case,’ a WADA statement said.

Bol, who ran fourth in the final of the 800m at the Tokyo Olympics, has returned to running in Europe ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Sunrise host Natalie Barr rips into the Big Four Aussie banks: Here’s how they are giving YOU a raw deal as they make millions

  • Major banks to crop grilling in parliament this week
  • CEO’s of Westpac, NAB, ANZ and CBA to front the inquiry
  • Banks to be grilled over interest rates for savings accounts

Sunrise host Natalie Barr has ripped into Australia’s biggest banks as the Big Four prepare to front a parliamentary inquiry into savings rates.

Australia’s major banks are set to cop a grilling this week as chief executives appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Economics.

The CEO’s of NAB, Westpac, ANZ and Commonwealth Bank will be asked why interest rate rises are not being passed on in full to customers’ savings accounts, despite passing them on in full to mortgage holders.

While the national interest rate sits at 4.1 per cent, the ongoing rates on the major banks’ online savings accounts remains between 1.05 and 2.15 per cent.

Finance expert Steve Mickenbecker labelled it a ‘raw deal’ for customers with Barr joining in on the pile-on.

‘We all know we want strong banks and we do have them in this country, but is this being a bit rich?’ Barr asked Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume on Wednesday.

‘What would you do to fix this problem?’

Sunrise host Natalie Barr has questioned if Australia’s major banks are being a ‘bit rich’ ahead of a parliamentary inquiry into interest and savings rates rises this week

The shadow finance minister said the only way interest rates could be brought back back down was by getting inflation under control.

‘That’s why we want to make sure the government make sure that its fiscal responsibility is being met, it’s reigning in and suspending suspicions,’ she said.

‘You’ve got to reign in your spending to do that and that way we don’t have to keep raising interest rates and punishing mortgage holders more and more.’

Ms Hume said the major banks would be held to account during the inquiry.

‘That’s a good thing, we want to make sure that when they’ve raised those [interest] rates that it’s done so in a timely and transparent way,’ she said.

‘They’ll have to answer to members of parliament as to why they haven’t done that.’

Since May 2022, Australia’s major banks have passed on repeated rate rises in full to variable mortgage customers but not to all savings accounts.

The ongoing rates in online saver accounts have only increased by between 1.05 and 2.15 per cent in the last 14 months of repeated rate hikes.

This means people who have an existing online savings account with the big four have missed out on up to 2.95 percentage points.

The move has drawn outrage with financial comparison website Canstar group executive financial services Steve Mickenbecker calling it a ‘raw deal’ for customers.

‘Savers should do well in a rising-interest-rate environment, and some are, but there is a whole group getting a raw deal,’ he said.

‘Savers who have their money in a regular savings account … are setting and forgetting their way to substandard interest returns when they should be on the winning side of rate increases.’

Sally Tindall, the research director at RateCity.com.au, said customers of the big four shouldn’t assume they were getting each rate hike in full.

‘While the big banks have increased some savings rates by more than the RBA hikes, which is fantastic, millions of customers with online saver accounts are on ongoing rates that are around half, if not a quarter of the current cash rate,’ she said.

‘That’s about as far from fantastic as it can get.’

Ms Tinfall said savings accounts had been purposefully designed to catch customers out with an abundance of fine print, balance caps and introductory rates.

‘The big four banks should consider simplifying their savings account options to make it easier to understand and navigate for all customers, instead of the survival of the fittest approach they’ve adopted thus far,’ she said.

The chief executives of ANZ and NAB will appear before the parliamentary inquiry on Wednesday, with CBA and Westpac to follow on Thursday.

Make sure your trip to Australia is a confusion-free one, with this fascinating guide to quirky Aussie slang, from ‘chockers’ to ‘no wokkas’

Australians have been shortening words and creating colloquialisms for decades, resulting in a unique Aussie-English language full of quirky slang that delights (and often confuses) visitors from around the world.

Here’s a beginner’s guide to some classic Aussie lingo.

Arvo – Afternoon. As in: ‘The best time to go for a coastal walk is in the arvo.’

Barbie – Barbecue or BBQ. As in: ‘Let’s fire up the beach barbie and cook up some snags [sausages].’

Beaut – Beautiful. As in: ‘Catch a beaut west-coast sunset.’

Brekkie – Breakfast.

Australians have been shortening words and creating colloquialisms for decades

Budgie smugglers – Men’s swimming briefs.

Chock-a-block or chockers – Extremely full. As in: ‘Canberra’s National Gallery of Australia is chock-a-block with over 155,000 works of art.’

Coldie or cold one: As in: ‘An ice-cold beer.’

Crikey – An expression of surprise, usually followed by ‘mate’ for the full Aussie experience. As in: ‘Crikey mate!’

Ashes nemesis Alastair Cook launches stinging attack on defensive Aussie tactics on day one of the first Test: ‘It feels a bit un-Australian’

  • Aussies were negative in field against England
  • Hosts took full advantage in Ashes first Test
  • Tactics stunned cricket great Alastair Cook
  • England declared at 8-393 from 78 overs

England cricket great Alastair Cook has called out Pat Cummins’ defensive tactics during day one of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, stating it ‘felt a bit un-Australian.’

The frenetic hosts declared after just 78 overs, having plundered 8-393 with Joe Root’s century the highlight.

And from the outset, it appeared the Aussies, usually famed for their aggressive nature in the cricket field, had gone into their shell.

‘It feels a bit un-Australian. They normally fight fire with fire,’ former England captain and decorated batsman Cook said on the BBC‘s Test Match Special.

‘I’ve never seen Australia with four men on the boundary.’

Fellow cricket great Ricky Ponting couldn’t believe what he was seeing, with sweepers on the boundary rope either side of the field each time a new batsman walked to the crease.

Polarising ex-England star Kevin Pietersen continued the pile on, stating: ‘Australia have got it wrong, but from an England perspective it is fantastic to see Australia so defensive.

‘I just think first morning of an Ashes series, I would have thought that Pat Cummins would have said, ‘OK England, give it a go. We don’t mind. Hit us for six fours … a couple of sixes, no problem. Then we will go to plan B.

‘I think that they went straight to plan-B.’

Australia will start day two at 0-14, with openers David Warner (eight not out) and Usman Khawaja (four not out) successfully navigating four overs late in the day.

Ben Stokes’ aggressive declaration leading into stumps stunned many cricket fans, but it is part of England’s much hyped ‘Bazball’ mentality, a nod to coach Brendon McCullum.

‘It was a bold call, it was a good call,’ England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow told Sky Sports after himself belting 78 from as many balls.

‘There will be conversations around it, but no-one likes going out there with 20 minutes and [seeing out] four overs… especially when you’ve got Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson running in.’

Aussie furious at ‘sun lounger hoggers’ in Bali who left their towels on day beds for NINE HOURS is praised for an act of ‘petty’ revenge: ‘Victory’

  • Towels were left unattended on chairs by the pool
  • An Aussie couple waited hours before moving them
  • Culprits finally rocked up at the pool after nine hours
  • People often wake up early to reserve poolside sunbeds

An Aussie couple who woke up at the crack of dawn were flabbergasted when they found someone had ‘reserved’ sun loungers beside the pool at their Bali resort – and then didn’t turn up for nine hours,

Thom and Lisa found unattended beach towels that had been left on afternoon loungers before 6.30am at the Grand Barong Resort in Bali on Wednesday morning.

Leaving your towel unfurled on a day beds is seen as a sign the lounge is taken, but many resorts ban guests from reserving spaces.

The pair waited until 2pm before tossing them aside and taking the seats for themselves, only for the people who had put them there to show up at 3.30pm.

Their reaction was ‘priceless’, and Thom shared the ‘petty’ revenge’ online with droves of followers agreeing that leaving towels on seats all day was ‘sun hogging’ and disrespectful.

In some resorts there are signs which tell tourists that they can only reserve public seating for a maximum of one hour without physically being there.

‘We woke up this morning [and] noticed towels already placed on the afternoon shade sunbeds,’ Thom wrote.

‘We went about our day and eventually arrived at the pool at 1pm to the beds untouched, nobody in sight. At 2pm we told pool staff we were moving the towels as nobody had been on them.

‘We then waited until 3:30pm for them to eventually arrive and the realisation that their spots are gone, iPads and books in hand was priceless.’

When the culprits arrived to claim their seats, Thom and Lisa made sure to not give them up.

‘We literally left and asked others to take them just to keep the pettiness going,’ Lisa said.

The small victory garnered a big celebration online from others who had shared similar experiences.

‘Am I the only one hoping there’s a day two to this situation,’ one person said.

Another wrote: ‘Proof that not all heroes wear a cape,’ another added. ‘Would shout you both a Bintang if I were there.’

‘I would’ve done the same except I wouldn’t have waited – if they weren’t there using them its free for all,’ a third added.

Thom posted an update of the empty poolside chairs on Thursday as a sign of victory.

‘Free all morning,’ Thom wrote the following day.

Some in the comments commended the couple for not immediately ditching the towels, saying that some time needed to be afforded for owners who might’ve been swimming.

Vacationers flocking to loungers as pool gates open is notorious issue in resorts.

Why Australian stars like Ian Healy are heaping praise on Bluey’s cricket episode – and even choking back tears – after it out-rated the Aussies winning the World Test Championship

  • Bluey episode dubbed ‘cricket’ has stolen the hearts of many fans
  • Shows character Rusty’s rise from backyard cricket to stardom
  • Test great Ian Healy felt it was a throwback to simpler times
  • Commentators Andy Maher & Trent Copeland also impressed

A number of Aussie cricket identities – including decorated wicketkeeper Ian Healy – can’t get enough of the animated series Bluey after the popular kids show paid homage to the sport in a recent episode.

The episode in question was a ratings hit – it had more viewers than Pat Cummins’ team winning the World Test Championship against India on Sunday night.

Healy, who played 119 Tests for Australia, felt the show produced in Brisbane is a throwback to simpler times.

‘We think we are busier than we have ever been, backyards are smaller than they were and just going to the park now there can be security issues,’ he told News Corp.

‘At a time when the game is trying to get cricket in more schools it’s good to see this episode come out. I love Bluey – just the simple, strong messages. You sit down to watch one episode and end up watching three or four.’

Former opening batsman Ed Cowan reportedly choked back tears while watching the episode, with ex-Aussie paceman turned media personality Trent Copeland tweeting ‘how good’ after kicking back and enjoying the show.

Commentator Andy Maher felt the series three episode was a ‘thing of beauty’, with The Grade Cricketer co-host Sam Perry declaring the detail was ‘perfect’ from start to finish.

In the Bluey episode simply titled ‘Cricket’, viewers meet Rusty, whose passion for cricket may rival Steve Smith.

He is seen playing the sport at every spare moment, be it with his brothers in the backyard, with other mates in the park and even by himself, knocking a tennis ball against the wall and trying to knock over a single stump.

If that wasn’t dedicated enough, the cricket tragic also sleeps with a cricket bat by his bed.

Rusty’s talent – which begins in the backyard, as it has for so many stars of the game – eventually pays off, with one of the final scenes showing the batsman walk out onto Brisbane’s famous Gabba ground to represent Australia.

And given the Bluey episode (563,000 views) had more eyes on the screen than the win over India (524,000) at the Oval, cricket may yet explode in the US, where the show is a huge hit.
