Brazen thieves have been caught on video running from Footlocker, Apple and Lululemon with arms full of merchandise as Philadelphia police struggle to grab the looters.

Videos shared on social media shows police officers attempting to grab lotters, some of who are wearing Halloween masks, as they run from a Lululemon store carrying goods.

Numerous bikes and piles of merchandise can be seen piled up on the sidewalk outside the clothing store on Walnut Street in the heart of the city.

ABC reported that police had detained individuals ranged from teenagers to young adults, and recovered one weapon from the scene.

It has also been reported that there have been numerous shots fired during the looting in the downtown area.

Thieves also descended on a nearby Foot Locker store and Apple Store, with CBS News reporting that the security guard at the footwear store was assaulted.

In another video of the store being ransacked, a large number of thieves can be seen rifling through the store.

Footage from the Apple store shows the aftermath of the looting, with iPhones and other electronic goods seemingly ripped from their display stands.

What appears to be staff members can be seen standing around looking bemused.

Fox News reporter Steve Keeley also shared footage showing the fallout of the looting.

Officers can be seen placing handcuffs on one man, as they guard the exterior of the store.

Numerous people can be heard shouting in the background as he is led to the rear of a police van.

Another shot of looters outside the Lululemon store shows a large number of thieves making their escape.

Numerous officers quickly arrive on the scene and can be seen pinning several men down.

A police officer also told NBC Philadelphia that over 100 juveniles had looted the Lululemon store.

CBS3 said that multiple police commanders confirmed to them that the looting had no connection to earlier BLM demonstrations.

Protests had started round the city earlier in the day over the dismissal of charges against police officer Eddie Irizarry who was involved in a fatal shooting.

Hugh E. Dillon also shared a video showing the police response to his social media page.

Dillon wrote: ‘Stay out of center city: Kids looted Apple Store , Lululemon and Chestnut street I hear footlocker has been broken into.

‘The police are doing an incredible effort on bikes and in cars corralling the kids blocked by Block. They are pulling cars over a lot of kids are in cars.

‘They stop and a whole bunch of them get out and then they start trying to break in the stores. But the police are on top of it.’

Security guard at a nearby Wendy’s, Hakeem Russel told NBC that the store next to the fast food restaurant had been broken into, with a guard assaulted.

Russel told the outlet: ‘A couple a kids decided they wanted to take full advantage of the unjust shooting that’s happened.

‘It’s definitely been unrest around here since the verdict.’

Another video shows what appears to be a liquor store in the city, with one woman filming the scene shouting: ‘Everybody must eat, everybody must eat.’

Officers have now blocked off several streets in the area with crime scene tape due to the robberies.

ABC reported that police had detained individuals ranged from teenagers to young adults, and recovered one weapon.

DailyMail.com has approached the Philadelphia Police Department for comment on the situation.

Just three weeks ago, the Philadelphia Police Commissioner resigned from her post as the Democratic run city dealt with a wave of homicides and lawlessness.

Danielle Outlaw, 48, who has been Philly’s top cop since February 2020, officially left the department on September 22.

Outlaw’s new role will be the Deputy Chief Security Officer at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where she will oversee the airports, bridges, tunnels and other transportation infrastructure in the New York City area.

Before she took office, Philadelphia saw less than 400 homicides each year since 2007. Both 2021 and 2022 have seen more than 500 homicides across the city.

Latest figures, which are up until last Sunday, show how there has been 302 homicides in the city so far this year.

There has also been 402 reported rapes, 58,759 cases of property crime, 3,701 cases of aggravated assaults and 1,314 shooting victims.

Merely days after the release of its new operating system – iOS 17 – Apple has had to issue urgent updates.

iOS 17.0.1, now available globally, fixes three security flaws that left devices exposed to ‘malware’ – malicious computer software.

The update is for all iPhone models still supported by the tech giant – so those released in 2018 and later (including iPhone XS and the 2nd generation iPhone SE).

However, if you’ve got yourself a brand new iPhone 15 in the last few days, you’ll need an even newer update – iOS 17.0.2.

iOS 17.0.2 also fixes an issue that may prevent the transfer of data directly from an older iPhone during setup.

A customer holds an iPhone 15 at a store in Los Angeles, California, on Friday (September 22) - the global release day. Apple's new iOS mobile operating system, iOS 17, was released to coincide with the new device (although it was made available for other recent iPhone models too). Now, Apple has had to release new versions (iOS 17.0.1 and iOS 17.0.2) to fix bugs

Now, Apple has had to release new versions (iOS 17.0.1 and iOS 17.0.2) to fix bugs

How to install the urgent iPhone update

  1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone (denoted by the cog or gear icon)
  2. Select ‘General’ followed by ‘Software Update’
  3. Tap ‘Download and Install’

Therefore, if you have the new iPhone 15, you should update it to iOS 17.0.2 before you try transferring data from your old device, not after.

To get either of the latest updates for your iPhone (or iPad, which is also affected), you just need to head to your device’s Settings and select ‘General’ followed by ‘Software Update’.

Tapping ‘Download and Install’ should start the update, which could take a few minutes to complete.

Apple’s new iOS mobile operating system, iOS 17, was released last week, a few days before the iPhone 15 hit the shelves (although iOS 17 was made available for other recent iPhone models too).

In a web post, Apple disclosed the three security flaws that are affecting iOS 17.0, which will be fixed in minutes as long as you update.

One of these flaws allowed a malicious app to be able ‘to bypass signature validation’ – meaning it may be able to run without the user noticing.

iOS 17.0.1 is for iPhone models still supported by the tech giant - so those released in 2018 and later (including the iPhone XS and the 2nd generation iPhone SE). iPhone 15 gets iOS 17.0.2

iOS 17.0.1 is for iPhone models still supported by the tech giant – so those released in 2018 and later (including the iPhone XS and the 2nd generation iPhone SE). iPhone 15 gets iOS 17.0.2

iOS 17.0.1 fixes three security flaws

1. CVE-2023-41991: A malicious app may be able ‘to bypass signature validation’ – meaning it may be able to run without the user noticing

2. CVE-2023-41992: A local attacker ‘may be able to elevate their privileges’ to take control of an iPhone

3. CVE-2023-41993: Processing web content may lead to ‘arbitrary code execution’ – allowing an attacker to execute any code they want on a victim’s system

Apple disclosed the flaws following tip-offs from Google and the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab research group.

iOS 17.0.1 – which is for all recent iPhone models apart from the new iPhone 15 – fixes the bugs.

Meanwhile, iOS 17.0.2 includes the three security fixes of iOS 17.0.1, but it also corrects the iPhone 15’s data transfer issue, the tech giant said in another post.

If you have any one of the new iPhone 15 models, you should notice in your Settings that the newest software update available is iOS 17.0.2.

iOS 17.0.2 fixes the data transfer issue that is issue specific to the iPhone 15 lineup, so the update is not necessary for older iPhone models.

Therefore, if you have an older iPhone and you see the latest update available is iOS 17.0.1, you don’t not have to worry that iOS 17.0.2 is not available.

The most important thing is updating your iPhone from iOS 17.0 (or iPadOS 17.0 if you have an iPad) because it leaves your device vulnerable to bugs.

Once this is done you should be able to enjoy the new functionality offered by iOS 17, as intended by Apple.

The days of having to manually type a new friend's contact details into your iPhone are a thing of the past in iOS 17. The update includes the ability to share your contact details, simply by bringing your iPhone close to another

The generation of software includes several exciting features, including a Live Voicemail tool and the ability to share your contact details simply by touching your iPhone to another.

iOS 17 was released a few days before iPhone 15 hit the shelves, leading to packed crowds from London to Beijing.

The standard range of new iPhones start at £799 and are equipped with a new titanium frame, USB-C charging port and new artificial intelligence features

The two most expensive options in the iPhone 15 family, the Pro and Pro Max, reach a whopping £1,499 and £1,599, depending on storage.

iPhone 15 Pro review: MailOnline gets hands-on with Apple’s new flagship smartphone – so, is it really worth £1,499?

After months of anticipation, rumours, and excitement, Apple’s new iPhone 15 range finally goes on sale this Friday.

The tech giant unveiled four new devices at its September event – the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The top of the range – iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max – boast a number of impressive features including a new Action Button, a titanium finish, and a USB-C charger.

But with prices ranging from £999 to £1,599, is it really worth splashing the cash?

MailOnline’s Shivali Best got hands-on with the iPhone 15 Pro to see what all the fuss is about.

US health officials are looking into reports that the iPhone 12 emits harmful levels of radiation — after sales were temporarily halted in Europe due to safety fears.

A spokesperson for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) — which is partly responsible for making sure cellphones are safe — told DailyMail.com the agency was ‘reviewing the available information’.

It comes after a regulator in France this week asked Apple to stop selling the 2020 iPhone 12, claiming tests found the handset emits radiation levels that exceed EU restrictions.

Germany, Belgium and Spain have all signaled they could follow suit. Apple has disputed the findings, but the news has reignited deep-rooted fears about health and cellphone usage.

More than 81million iPhones were sold in the United States in 2021, the year after the model’s release. It is unclear how many Americans still own a device that is now three years old.

Apple says it will update the software in its iPhone 12 in France in order to resolve the issue. The device is shown here being held by Tim Cook, Apple CEO. Experts say that although the radiation may exceed French standards, it is not high enough to put people at risk

In a statement to DailyMail.com, a spokesman said: ‘In general, the FDA does not comment on specific studies or test results, but evaluates them as part of the body of evidence to further our understanding about a particular issue and assist in our mission to protect public health.

‘The FDA is reviewing the available information.’

The agency is responsible for regulating the safety of phones along with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The FCC declined to comment when contacted by DailyMail.com.

The Agence Nationale des Fréquences (ANFR) initially raised the alarm on Tuesday, claiming that the iPhone 12 had failed its latest round of routine testing – with radiation levels 40 percent above what the regulator says is acceptable.

But most experts say even if the higher radiation levels are true, they are ‘not sufficient’ enough to harm people.

There are old fears about the effects of phones on health, having previously been linked to brain cancer and fertility issues, but these have never been proven conclusively.

Dr Devra Davis, an epidemiologist who has been studying the dangers of radiofrequency released from phones since the early 2000s, told DailyMail.com the FDA should ‘absolutely’ investigate the iPhone 12.

‘Why should French people be more protected than Americans?,’ she added.

Dr Joel Moskowitz, who researches the adverse effects of cellphone radiation at the University of California, Berkeley, said he hoped the reports from France prompted an investigation.

He told DailyMail.com: ‘I hope the French Apple 12 emissions debacle triggers an independent investigation in the US regarding SAR testing procedures for authorization for all wireless devices.

‘In 2012, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report at the request of the Congress which raised major concerns about the SAR testing protocol, but it was ignored by the FCC.’

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it was reviewing available information over the iPhone 12

In routine testing, French regulators found the iPhone 12 emitted radiation levels that were 40 percent above permissible levels when it was next to a human.

Radiation from cellphones is measured in Europe using the specific absorption rate (SAR), or the amount of power absorbed by the body from a particular source per kilogram of body-weight.

More than 100million iPhone 12’s have been sold worldwide, while in the US an estimated 135million people own an iPhone.

In 2021, a year after the iPhone 12’s release, the number of iPhone owners sat at around 116million users.

French digital minister Jean-Noel Barrot stressed the iPhone 12’s radiation levels were much lower than those that scientific studies say could cause harm.

He added that a software update would be able to solve the issue.

Dr Rodney Croft, a neurophysiologist in Australia and chair of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, said: ‘From a health and safety point of view, it is not as if this is putting anyone at risk.’

The safety levels — based on the risks of burns or heatstroke from the phone’s radiation — are already set ten times below the level where scientists found evidence of harm.

Dr Croft added that France’s findings may differ from those of other regulators because measurement methods vary between different regulators.

France has previously stopped the sales of 42 smartphones in the country over radiation concerns. This is the first time Apple has been hit.

Apple currently has two weeks in which to respond but has already said it will issue a software update to fix the issue.

French regulators say they will need to test the software before they can put the phone back on the market.

The software update will only affect phones in France, and not those in other countries, they added.

Previous research has suggested exposure to radiation from phones can cause everything from cancer to fertility issues.

But many researchers seek to pour cold water on these results, saying the tests were done in animals and exposure levels were very high in order to cause the issue.

‘Currently there is no strong evidence that exposure to electromagnetic fields during mobile phone use is associated with adverse health effects,’ Maria Feychting, a professor of epidemiology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, said.

‘However, there are still some uncertainties and further research is needed, especially regarding the higher frequencies that will be used by 5G.’

It is worth pointing out that the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which is an offshoot of the WHO, has previously claimed that certain radio frequencies at extreme levels are ‘possibly carcinogenic to humans’.

However, this is thought to be unlikely.

Apple said in a statement that its phone complied with standards worldwide but that it would ‘issue a software update for users in France to accommodate the protocol used by French regulators’.

They added: ‘This is related to a specific testing protocol used by French regulators and not a safety concern.’

The iPhone 12 was first released in September 2020 and is still sold worldwide, although Apple is now seeking to phase it out following the release of the iPhone 15.

Apple tech support staff are being told not to volunteer any information about the phones.

DailyMail.com contacted Apple for comment.

Popstars and actors may be the first people that come to mind when thinking of megafans.

But you may be surprised to know that one man has been crowned the world’s ultimate Apple superfan in an international competition held by SellCell.

Software engineer, David Freedman, triumphed over 1,000 candidates with a collection of more than 100 devices at his Kansas home.

The 29-year-old’s impressive shrine is worth a whopping $36,000 (£29,035), and even includes a pair of glasses crafted by Steve Jobs’ former optician.

But David’s love for the tech giant doesn’t stop there – as he’s even named his daughter after the Apple co-founder’s child, Lisa.

‘I’m extremely proud and humbled to bring the title to Apple’s home country. A lifetime of being called an “Apple Sheep” has finally paid off,’ he said.

‘Apple is so much more than just a company to me. It is a community and an ecosystem that touches so many aspects of my life.

‘Every time Tim Cook steps out on stage to unveil a new product feels like Christmas morning.’

David’s passion for Apple kickstarted when he was just a teenager while writing letters to Steve Jobs.

‘I was inspired by the story of when Steve Jobs was in high school and called Bill Hewlett asking for spare electronic components,’ he said.

‘Not only was he given the parts, but also an internship at Hewlett-Packard. I was hopeful that I could gain a similar opportunity.

‘Unfortunately, the replies from Steve’s PA were lost well over a decade ago. I do still have a few pieces of him, in a sense though.’

Today, every room in David’s house is painted in each of the six colours from one of Apple’s first ever logos.

Every door, fan, lock, camera and TV is also controlled by Apple’s HomeKit technology, while Siri is used to open the garage and control the heating.

‘My house matches the six-colour Apple logo which highlighted the graphics capabilities of the Apple II in 1977,’ he continued.

‘I received lots of concerned comments from friends and family about how I would be hurting the resale value or how hideous it would turn out.

‘I wasn’t going to let any of that stop me from having a house that I was happy with, though.’

Although David’s proud to have earned the Apple superfan title, he admits that it’s difficult to find a partner who likes it too.

‘I have a seven-year-old daughter named Elizabeth (or Lisa for short) – Steve Jobs’ daughter’s name and the name of the first computer Apple released with a graphical user interface.

‘But I’m currently single – it’s hard finding a partner who is okay with coming in second to Apple.’

David was awarded a new Series 9 watch after scoring all answers correctly in the fastest time as part of an Apple-themed contest.

He added: ‘You’d think a person who already owns over 100 different Apple products couldn’t possibly be excited to get another one, but I always am.

‘Not only as something practical that I will get use out of but also for what it symbolizes.

‘It will be an honor to wear it and I’ll surely brag about it to anyone I can get to listen.’

  • READ MORE:  iPhone 15 is officially UNVEILED by Apple

The newly unveiled updated Apple Watch Series 9 will be Apple’s first-ever carbon neutral gadget that requires a simple tap of two fingers to work.

The device, which will become available on September 22, was also made using renewable materials and clean energy, leading to a 75 percent decrease in the amount of carbon waste emitted.

And for the first time, users will be able to control the watch simply by tapping together the index finger and thumb on their watch hand.

The Series 9 will start at $399 while the Apple Watch SE will run you $249. The Ultra 2 model will set you back $799.

The Series 9 was designed with the tech giant's most powerful chip - the S9-Chp - that is twice as fast as the one introduced in 2022

Second to the newly unveiled iPhone 15, the new Apple watches were the stars of Tuesday’s big reveal in Cupertino, California.

The double-tap touchless feature made the biggest splash.

The user need only tap their two fingers together to answer or end a call, set a timer, play music, or snooze an alarm. The small action also allows the user to take a photo with the camera remote on the watch.

The gesture feature relies on the company’s machine learning algorithm called Neural Engine which uses an accelerometer to measure the vibration between the fingers and a heart sensor to detect unique wrist movements and changes in blood flow where the two fingers tap together.

Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams said: ‘We’re introducing our best Apple Watch lineup, with incredible new capabilities and technological advancements, including a new double tap gesture, brighter display, on-device Siri, as well as our first-ever carbon neutral products.

‘Whether users are upgrading from earlier models or buying their first, there’s never been a more compelling time to experience Apple Watch.’

Apple also touted its environmentalism wins that propelled it closer to its goal to make all of its products carbon-neutral by 2030.

The watch was made using 100 percent clean electricity while a third was made using recycled or renewable materials, which Apple boasts resulted in a 75 percent decrease in the amount of carbon emissions produced in manufacturing and shipping.

A company statement said: ‘Emissions were reduced from the three biggest sources of greenhouse gases — materials, electricity, and transportation.

‘The small amount of emissions remaining are offset with high-quality carbon credits from nature-based projects.

‘Apple Watch packaging has been redesigned to be 100 percent fiber-based, and a new logo on the packaging indicates models that are carbon neutral.’

While the company touted its strides toward meeting its eco-conscious goal, the Tuesday reveal follows years of bad press regarding Apple’s reliance on inhumane working practices in cobalt mines in Africa.

Cobalt is used in a wide array of mobile phones and electric vehicles – almost every tech gadget that uses a lithium-powered battery.

The annual reveal has been a company staple since the original iPhone was unveiled in 2007. The unveiling of the new iPhone 15, which features an updated camera, a brighter retina display, new colors, and a range of other additions, was the headlining event.

iPhone 15 is said to have a larger battery, but Apple did not provide specific details.

Apple also announced its new Apple Watch Series 9 Tuesday, which features a touchless ability to answer calls and snooze alarms – users tape their index and thumb together to perform these tasks.

It uses machine learning to detect tiny changes in blood flow when the user taps their fingers together, freeing up the other hand for other tasks like walking a dog or holding a cup of coffee, said Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams.

The Series 9 was designed with the tech giant’s most powerful chip – the S9-Chp – that is twice as fast as the one introduced in 2022.

Along with a new device, Apple announced innovative features, including Name Drop between the devices and the ability to sync your Watch with a Home Pod.

Apple held its annual September product event Tuesday from its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

While the conference kicked off with a new Apple Watch Series 9, the world was at the edge of its seats to see the iPhone 15.

The new smartphone features the same A16 Bionic chip inside that previously formed the brains of the iPhone 14 Pro, making the flagship device the most powerful yet.

An Apple executive said the company used machine learning to detect a person in the frame, allowing users to turn a picture into a portrait immediately or later in the Photos app.

While the iPhone 15 was the star of the show, the Apple Watch Series 9 is packed with new features.

New internal hardware picks up the hand gestures, allowing users to answer calls, hang up and snooze alarms with the tap of the index finger and thumb.

The 2022 Series 8 provides up to 1,000 nits of brightness, but the latest model is up to 2,000.

Name Drop will be released with the upcoming iOS 17 update, which allows users to tap their devices to share contacts.

However, this is not expected to hit the Apple Watch until later this year.

The Series 9 will look similar to previous models but will have updated colors, including pink, starlight and silver.

The tech giant is also ditching the traditional leather bands for Finewoven, which it claims feels like the original bands but are made of cloth.

And Apple said it has been working with Hermes and Nike in producing the cloth-made pieces.

Just six hours before the eagerly anticipated iPhone 15 launch event, the Apple Store website has gone down.

While users can usually browse an array of devices when visiting the website, they’re now greeted with a disclaimer that reads: ‘Be right back.

‘We’re making updates to the Apple Store. Check back soon.’

A blue and grey version of the Apple logo is also displayed, hinting that the outage is linked to the iPhone 15 launch.

The event, titled Wanderlust, will take place in Cupertino, California, at 10:00 PT (18:00 BST).

While users can usually browse an array of devices when visiting the website, they’re now greeted with a disclaimer that reads: ‘Be right back. We’re making updates to the Apple Store. Check back soon’

While Apple has made no mention of a new iPhone, the company has revealed a new device every year around autumn for over a decade now.

Apple will be livestreaming the event on its website later today.

MailOnline will also be covering it live, so make sure you check back in for all the latest Apple action.

As for when the iPhone 15 will actually hit the shelves, Apple insider Mark Gurman thinks the release will come less than two weeks after the event.

He said he’s been told by an unnamed source that it will go on sale on September 22, which means Apple will ‘get about a week of iPhone 15 sales in its fiscal fourth quarter’.

Apple is expected to unveil four variations of the iPhone 15 – the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and what may or may not be called the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

According to leaker Andrew O’Hara, Apple has decided to change the name of the iPhone Pro Max (the top end version) to ‘iPhone Ultra’.

Whatever its name, it’s still considered one of its two ‘Pro’ models, meaning it will have more power and greater capabilities – as well as a higher price-tag.

A few features will be exclusive to the higher-end versions, although the biggest design tweaks will likely come to the entire iPhone 15 family.

Gurman says the iPhone 15 ‘promises to be the biggest update to the device in three years’ – since the launch of the iPhone 12 in 2020.

Here's what we know about the iPhone 15's design based on leaks and predictions from industry experts

Here’s what we know about the iPhone 15’s design based on leaks and predictions from industry experts

The biggest change to the iPhone 15 will be a new USB-C charging port, which is already commonly used for Android phones, laptops and more.

Apple has made the switch to USB-C and away from its own charging design called Lightning (discernible by its eight pins) due to an EU law.

The new legislation aims to make a single charging design the common standard – and ultimately reduce electronic waste.

Apple has effectively been forced to make this design change due to the EU law, although it technically could have manufactured iPhones with Lightning ports if they were sold in non-EU countries.

Along with a new charging port, the iPhone 15 will support faster charging speeds of up to 35W – significantly more than the iPhone 14, which has a charging speed of just 20W, another leaker claims.

This means the upcoming smartphone could charge from 0 to 100 per cent in just one hour, saving precious time for users if they’re in a hurry.

Other details about Apple’s new flagship have been gradually leaked based on insider knowledge and clues from ‘dummy units’ (accurate models given to third parties to design their phone accessories).

The iPhone 15 will allegedly have curvier edges, so it fits better in the hand, and titanium frames instead of stainless steel.

The back of the new phone, meanwhile, is covered with matt glass rather than polished glass, according to one YouTuber who accessed dummy units.

It’s possible that the design of the Apple logo in the official promo image is a nod to the new materials.

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max (also rumoured to be called ‘iPhone 15 Ultra’)

While Apple is not expecting to increase the size of the iPhone’s screen this year, it will shrink the border that goes around the edge – known as the ‘bezel’.

Gurman has claimed the border size around the display will be 1.5 millimeters, down from about 2.2 millimeters on current iPhones.

Long term, Apple wants to release an iPhone that is ‘truly all-screen’ with no borders around the display and no cutouts for cameras or sensors, he says – and iPhone 15 is a step towards that goal.

Apple has already filed a patent for an all-glass phone, which may indicate the secretive company’s longer-term plans.

According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu based in Hong Kong, the two iPhone 15 Pro models will be more expensive than previous iPhone Pros.

Apple has raised the prices for the Pros this year due to big hardware updates, including the titanium frame and the A17 Bionic chip, he claims.

Although Pu didn’t reveal exact price-tags, it’s worth noting that last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max started at £1,099/$999 and £1,199/$1,099, respectively.

Tim Long, an analyst at Barclays, also expects price hikes for the two more expensive iPhone 15 models, while the standard and Plus models will be about the same as last year.

iPhone 14’s standard model was £799/$849, while the iPhone 14 Plus was £949/$899.

Future iPhones could be ROLLABLE, according to new Apple’s latest patent shows a smartphone that opens and closes like a fruit roll-up

Apple has yet to launch a foldable smartphone like its rivals Samsung and Motorola, but the tech giant could be working on a rollable iPhone that would be the first-ever.

A new patent describes a device that looks like a fruit roll-up with a thin screen that bends around an axis when stored away.

The roll-up iPhone would have a protective layer of glass over the display to protect it from scratches and other damages as it rolled and unrolled.

The document also suggested adding coatings to the outer layer, such as anti-smudge, anti-fog, antireflection, and anti-static layers.

Apple is set to launch its iPhone 15 in September, so if the company does release a rollable smartphone, it will not be until 2024 – at the earliest.

  • EU law has forced technology firms to use USB-C cables by December next year

Apple is expected to kill off hundreds of millions of charging cables this week by giving its new iPhone 15 a standard power connector.

For years Apple has resisted calls to ditch its ‘Lightning’ charging port for the more prevalent USB-C connector, defiantly insisting buyers use a different charger from every other smartphone.

But the EU has passed a law to force all consumer technology firms to use USB-C chargers by December next year.

Brussels says different chargers create 11,000 tons of waste a year. At one point, there were 33 types of chargers for different brands of smartphone.

Now leaked reports say the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro being unveiled by Apple on Tuesday will have a USB-C port worldwide, not just in Europe.

Apple has not denied the reports. For those who use only Apple products, the change means cables need replacing – an issue Apple used to lobby against the EU law, saying it would increase waste in the short term.

Apple has already introduced USB-C for iPads and laptops, but dragged its heels over the iPhone.

Apple is also under pressure in China, which has expanded its ban on iPhones to local government workers and state-owned companies, after forbidding central government workers from bringing the mobiles to work.

The ban is a sign of Beijing limiting its reliance on US technology. Yet 90 per cent of Apple products are made in China. Apple is now seeking to speed up moves towards production elsewhere, including in Vietnam and India.

  • Many iPhone users will not be aware what a little yellow triangle alert means
  • The notification will pop-up to warn you of water damage, but don’t ignore it!
  • Here’s what to do if you see the alert, and why you should avoid panicking

A yellow triangle cropping up on your iPhone could seriously harm your device if you ignore it.

The notice will appear to protect your iPhone, but if you dismiss it you could permanently damage your handset.

There are two triangles that you might see pop-up as an official warning and both show a yellow triangle with a blue droplet of water.

If you see one of these alerts, your iPhone has detected liquid in the Lightning port or on the Lightning cable or Lightning accessory.

The notifications will read: ‘Charging Not Available’ or ‘Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector.’

Both advise the phone holder to disconnect the cable or accessory and allow it to dry, it also reads: ‘This may take several hours.’

It’s possible to override the message and charge your iPhone regardless, but this should only be done in emergencies.

Apple warns people against doing so, the company says: ‘If you charge your iPhone while the Lightning port is wet, the pins on the Lightning port or the cable can corrode and cause permanent damage or stop functioning, causing connectivity issues for your iPhone or accessory.’

Or, they advise to use a wireless charger instead but first, Apple said, make sure the back of the device is fully dry before placing it on the wireless charger.

You should immediately remove any iPhone accessories or charging cables from the Lightning port, unless it is in an emergency

  1. To dry your iPhone and make sure it’s ready to be charged normally, Apple suggest unplugging all cables or accessories and follow these steps:
  2. Tap you phone gently against your hand with the Lightning connector facing down t remove liquid and leave it in a dry area with some airflow.
  3. Wait at least 30 minutes and try charging the Lightning cable or connecting an accessory.
  4. If the alert pops up again, it means there is still liquid in the port or under the pins of the Lightning cable. At this point you should leave your iPhone to dry for a day, and try your cable within this time – be warned it could take a full 24 hours to properly dry.

What iPhone holders should not do is panic, as this could further damage the device.

Apple warn against using an external heat source or compressed air to speed up the process or inserting a foreign object such as a cotton bud or paper towel into the port.

And, contrary to popular belief, putting your phone in a bag of rice won’t help either. Apple warn against the myth by saying: ‘Doing so could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone.’

If you’re seeing the signal on your iPhone and your device isn’t wet, this could mean that the cable or accessory may be damaged and you should contact Apple Support for help.

Your Apple Watch or Fitbit wristband is a hotspot for harmful bacteria linked to fever, diarrhea and a weakened immune system, according to a new study.

Researchers swabbed a range of wristbands, finding they are teeming with E. coli and Staphylococcus spp, which can lead to pneumonia.

The tainted bands were made from plastic, rubber, cloth, leather and metal.

The gym-goer showed the highest counts for bacteria linked to staph infections that can cause sepsis or even death, emphasizing sanitizing wristbands after working out.

However, the team found those made of gold and silver were the most sanitary.

A new study of wristbands, sampled from 20 randomly selected participants, found that as many as 60 percent were harboring E. coli bacteria. Above, a sampling of the wristbands tested: rubber (top left), cloth (bottom left), metal (top right) and plastic (bottom right)

The study’s senior author, biological sciences professor Nwadiuto Esiobu, singled out physically active healthcare workers as a group that might especially wish to take heed of the study’s findings, to avoid infecting at-risk patients or the immunocompromised

‘The quantity and taxonomy of bacteria we found on the wristbands show that there is a need for regular sanitation of these surfaces,’ said the study’s senior author Nwadiuto Esiobu, a professor of biological sciences at Florida Atlantic University.

Esiobu singled out active, gym-going healthcare workers as a group that might especially wish to take heed of the study’s findings in an effort to avoid infecting at-risk patients.

‘The ability of many of these bacteria to significantly affect the health of immunocompromised hosts indicates a special need for health care workers and others in hospital environments to regularly sanitize these surfaces,’ she said.

Nearly all of the wristbands sampled, 95 percent, were contaminated with some bacteria, with the most common bacterial species found being ‘skin residents’ like genus groups Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas.

While Esiobu and her coauthors said that the prevalence of ‘Staphylococcus spp’ bacteria on 85 percent of the wristbands ‘was not unexpected,’ the presence of ‘Pseudomonas spp’ on 30 percent of the wristbands was a ‘public health concern.’

The intestinal bacteria E. coli, which commonly finds its infectious pathway through fecal-oral transmission and was found on 60 percent of the wristbands sampled, was also cause for alarm, they said.

The highest average infected wristbands yielded 34,600 bacterial colonies formed per square centimeter of surface (cfu/cm2) and 15,200 cfu/cm2 on rubber and plastic bands, respectively, when samples were grown in a petri dish-like culture.

Metallic gold and silver wristbands had about zero to 18 cfu/cm2.

‘On the average,’ the authors wrote, ‘the trend of bacteria load was cloth ≥ plastic ≥ rubber ≥ leather > metal.’

At left, a bacterial culture was taken from the plastic wristband of a 39-year-old male CrossFit fan and, at right, a sample from the rubber wristband of a 25-year-old female CrossFit enthusiast. After 30-hrs incubation, the plastic sample had no Staph aureus bacteria, but the rubber did

The study's senior author believes that other commonly used personal wearables, such as earbuds or cell phones, 'should be similarly studied' for their infectious transmission potential

The entirety of their results led the researchers to turn to disinfectant methods.

They wrote that both Lysol Disinfectant Spray and 70 percent ethanol ‘were highly effective regardless of the wristband material with 99.99 percent kill rate within 30 seconds.’

Apple cider vinegar proved less effective but could do the job in about two minutes.

According to the study, there was no significant difference between men and women in terms of who had the most bacterial-laden wristbands.

The single most useful predictor of which band had the most bacteria, they report, was the texture of the material and the person’s activity or recent hygiene prior to the testing.

‘Plastic and rubber wristbands may provide a more appropriate environment for bacterial growth as porous and static surfaces tend to attract and be colonized by bacteria,’ Esiobu said.

‘Other potential forms of bacterial transmission and facilitation of infection, such as earbuds or cell phones,’ she noted, ‘should be similarly studied.’
