James Harden was spotted at the US Open Cup semifinal between Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night as his bitter standoff with the Philadelphia 76ers continues.

Harden, a 10-time NBA All Star, was fined $100,000 by the league this week following his astonishing verbal attack on 76ers president Daryl Morey.

The point guard took aim at Morey earlier this month over his failed attempts to agree a trade with the LA Clippers, branding him a ‘liar’ while vowing to never play under him again after talks broke down.

And three days after his outburst, when asked if it was too late to salvage his Sixers career, Harden added: ‘I think so’.

Following his public comments, the NBA launched an inquiry into comments it felt ‘indicated he would not perform the services called for under his player contract unless traded to another team.’

In the end Harden was handed a $100,000 fine, which the NBPA plans to dispute as it does not believe he violated any rules against public trade demands.

As his fallout with Philadelphia continues, Harden was seen kicking back and relaxing at the US Open Cup soccer semifinal on Wednesday night.

As Houston claimed a 3-1 victory Real Salt Lake in extra time – setting up a final showdown with Lionel Messi and Inter Miami – the Sixers outcast watched on from the stands at Texas’ Shell Energy Stadium.

Hector Herrera fired Houston in front on the night, before Anderson Julio’s equalizer with 26 minutes remaining forced extra time.

It was there where the hosts prevailed, with goals from Adalberto Carrasquilla and Luis Caicedo sending them through to the final.

Brayan Vera also saw red for Real Salt Lake in the dying stages of extra time before Houston were confirmed as finalists.

Earlier in the evening, Miami booked its place in the final by toppling Cincinnati on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw in 120 minutes.

Harden is expected to report to the Sixers’ training camp in September after he was informed that a suitable trade with the Clippers hadn’t been found, despite the point guard claiming his relationship with the franchise is fractured beyond repair.

He first ripped into Morey while at a basketball camp in China, accusing the Philadelphia chief of dishonesty after talks over a move to the Clippers were ended.

‘Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,’ he said.

‘Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.’

Harden reportedly told league investigators that his comment was referring to Morey telling him that he will trade him ‘quickly’ following the $35.6 million opt in for 2023-24.

Aussie NBA star Ben Simmons trolls his old Philadelphia 76ers teammates in savage fashion as they lose finals series to Boston – but fans are left puzzled by small detail in his post

  • Boston smashed the 76ers in semi-final series decider
  • Former teammate Simmons savaged them on Instagram
  • Fans were divided with some fixated on his weird TV placement

It might have been over a year since NBA star Ben Simmons was traded by Philadelphia but there are no signs of forgiving or forgetting from the Aussie star, who has trolled his former team for the second year running.

The former No.1 draft pick was shown the door by the 76ers because they didn’t believe he could lead them to a championship and wanted more firepower to assist Joel Embiid.

So Simmons was traded to the Brooklyn Nets and the 76ers would land former Brooklyn star James Harden to form a roster they believed could reach the NBA Finals at the very least.

However, the Boston Celtics smashed Philadelphia in the deciding game of the Eastern Conference semifinal series at TD Garden on Sunday with forward Jayson Tatum dumping a game seven record 51 points on the hapless Sixers.

And didn’t Simmons love it.

Simmons' post on Instagram was divisive. Some thought it was savage trolling, others thought it was petty - and some could not get over the weird television placement

He posted an image of a television showing the blowout with a nice glass of red wine sitting perched on the coffee table.

Fans blew up at the the injured Aussie star’s post, calling it ‘cold’, ‘savage’ and ‘petty’.

Many felt it was payback for the way the 76ers treated their former star in the messy divorce.

‘Ben Simmons the greatest troll of time. Remember when Philadelphia blamed him? LMAO,’ one fan posted with a host of laughing emojis for good measure.

‘We should’ve kept Ben Simmons and traded Embiid,’ added another.

Bizarrely, some people side-stepped the trolling completely to complain about the off-centre placement of Simmons’ television.

‘I’m bothered by Ben Simmons TV placement on this wall,’ one fan posted.

‘This living room set up and the off center tv is as upsetting as every Ben Simmons jumper,’ added another.

It is also the second year in a row that Simmons has trolled his former teammates.

A fan shared an image from last year of Simmons looking smug in front of the television as the Sixers bowed out of the playoffs.

‘Never forget when Ben Simmons watched the [Miami] Heat eliminate the Sixers last year,’ they posted.

The repeated trolling doesn’t sit well with some NBA fans.

‘Ben Simmons is one bad season away from retirement. Not sure who tf he thinks he is,’ posted one fan.

‘Ben Simmons Instagram story just made me punch a hole in my wall I can’t take this,’ another quite angry fan posted.

‘Also how did Ben Simmons have the last laugh because he posted him watching the game on Instagram? Wtf y’all be talking about? Lol. He’s a bum that robbed two organizations out of a lot of money. He’s a cornball,’ another fumed from behind the comfort of an anonymous profile.

Another Aussie was pretty happy with the result as well.

Tennis star Nick Kyrgios is also a Boston supporter and shared a post showing that Tatum had become the first NBA player in history to record 51 points without a turnover in a playoffs game.

‘MVP,’ Kyrgios posted.
