FTI Consulting Expands Technology Team in Germany with Addition of Corporate Governance and E-Discovery Leaders

FTI Consulting, a global business advisory firm, has expanded its Technology segment in Germany with the addition of two highly experienced professionals. Dr. Jens Koenig joins as a Senior Managing Director, while Dr. Sebastian Schmitz takes on the role of Managing Director. This strategic move comes as the legal and regulatory landscape in Germany undergoes significant changes, leading to increased risks and complexities for clients.

FTI Technology’s Global CEO, Sophie Ross, emphasized the growing need for information and data governance-related guidance, as well as expert support for digital forensic and e-discovery matters. The appointment of Dr. Koenig and Dr. Schmitz reflects FTI Consulting’s commitment to expanding its global client offerings across various specializations.

Dr. Koenig brings nearly two decades of experience as an attorney, specializing in multinational regulatory investigations and coordinating efforts in response to enforcement actions by German prosecutors, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory agencies. His expertise lies in solving complex data challenges through close collaboration between legal and IT teams. Dr. Koenig has advised clients across industry sectors, including automotive, banking, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and aerospace.

Prior to joining FTI Technology, Dr. Koenig served as counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP for 17 years, focusing on white-collar crime, internal investigations, and cross-border matters. He holds a PhD from Heinrich Heine University of Dϋsseldorf School of Law.

Dr. Schmitz, on the other hand, brings a decade of experience in digital forensics, risk advisory, and e-discovery. He has deep expertise in advising clients on compliance best practices and investigative strategies to address complex regulatory inquiries. Dr. Schmitz previously held advisory roles within multiple Big Four firms, where he also served as head of e-discovery operations. He holds a PhD from the Department of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, Bundeswehr University Munich.
